Canadian Summit orders - Ship to USA address - paying tax?

I've had dozens of orders shipped to a US address, but I haven't since the 2020 covid shut downs. I put an order in through Summit and I see they are charging a state tax. Canadians are exempt from paying US taxes, and unfortunately Summit doesn't credit this charge or even know how to go about getting a refund. Looking into it, it seems that customs/border crossing have no interest in the matter as it is not Federal, it's being charged by the state.

Does anyone know how to get the refund?

I think it's crazy that a customer is charged based on shipping address vs billing address. It just seems like another money grab.

Well, all but five states (don't quote me on that) have a state sales tax and with the increase in internet sales they were losing quite a bit of revenue. Given that, it's no wonder states wanted to mitigate those loses. Do I like it - NO and I don't know anyone who does but the upside for me (MA sales tax is 6.25%) is they haven't raised the other taxes I pay to compensate. No more free lunch! If there were a way for you as a Canadian resident to get a refund I'm sure they would just tell you to ship it to your "billing" address and you deal with GST/HST or whatever you folks are required to pay.

Some states still add their local taxes on whatever you ship to that state. then crossing the border you get charged yet more tax. Washington started doing this last year.
Even though the items were coming from New York.

Funny thing I found out last winter when I was checking on a Tremec conversion for a C10 is that most of the Tremec vendors seem to be located in Tennesee. I was told that state is not required to collect taxes for shipments out of state. IE if i bought and shipped to Florida no tax but if I picked up in Tennesee I paid tax. Now does anyone know of a Chevelle Parts Supllier based out of Tennesee?

Since the border crossing was in Idaho, I called Idaho Tax office and they give me a form that I could fill out and mail in and they "would take a look at it". We'll see if anything happens.

Yes, I get charged the New York state tax as well when I ship to zip 13669...I find amazon has better deals now.
When you cross the border they charge on the total amount (including state tax), so you are getting double taxed. At least I only get charged taxes (on auto parts), never anything on duties.
I mostly cross the border when my friends send packages to the same warehouse. I went down myself a couple of months ago to pickup a Shariroff engine CAN THE TRUCK MAKE IT TO VERMONT? 426 MILES OF ROAD TIME (youtube.com)
