I have a 454 512 block, standard bore 4 bolt main. Just wondering what a bare block is selling for. Thanks for any information.
what is the casting date?
The VIN stamp on the passenger side front pad plus a picture of the oil bypass area like this.
Could be worth quite a bit if the VIN hasn’t been machined off.

We’re did you see this number? From the pictures I provided. It’s a LS5 out of a 1970 Corvette. I would post it over at the Corvette forum to see if anyone is looking for that VIN. Carefully clean this area, don’t sand or grind on it. Also pull the valve covers and get the casting numbers and dates off the heads to see if they match. You could probably get a really good amount if the heads and rotating assemblies are original.
I can make out 10S415xxx which is a Corvette VIN

Based on the two pics you provided in post #8 that is not an original 4-bolt main block fwiw. The two pipe thread fittings above the oil filter boss are the wrong size. Look at the pic @70SSOBSESSION provided in Post #7.I have a 454 512 block, standard bore 4 bolt main. Just wondering what a bare block is selling for. Thanks for any information.
Yes the bellhousing flange. It’s the VIN for the 1970 Corvette that the engine came out of.We’re did you see this number? From the pictures I provided.
Only the Corvette vin started with the 4. B body would have a 1 after the “S”Is it possible that it is out of a full size built in St Louis Missouri ? They built corvettes also.
Curious if the heads match. Are they GM oval ports?Thank you for the information
In the late 80’s I didn’t get 1 call on a 1970 LS5 454/467 I had in a rust & dent free running 73 Elky I had listed for $2,500 ended up swapping it for a $800 engine & trans rebuild balance I owed for a diff vehicle, best of luck to the OP
