on a 1970 chevelle with an automatic on the floor, are the reverse lamps activated by the wiring in the shifter/console or by the transmission? i replaced the engine wiring harness and there is a 2 female hole boot in the hiring harness that looks like it goes to the transmisiion, could this for the manual trans if equipped?

Reverse lights and neutral safety switch are controlled by a position switch on the horseshoe shifter. I have a column shift, so the switch is mounted to the column, but there should be a harness extension (at least on the OEM harness) that runs under the console to the shifter.

I stand corrected - Just read the older thread you just commented on and I believe only the NSS is attached to the shifter. There should be a back drive linkage to the column where the reverse lights are controlled. This back drive linkage also prevents the key from being removed and the column locked unless the transmission is in park.
