So I’ve been giving it a basic look over waiting for the slide back to show up. This was definitely someone’s hotrod at one point. Hood hinges are shot, door latches don’t catch for some reason. Trunk lock is broke but I was told the trunk is full of parts. Already found a nice single plane intake, Holley double pumper, large pile of misc engine parts, brand new double roller timing set. All the rally wheel hubcaps and trim rings appear to be present. Hood is a bit rusty, drivers fender has a healthy dent. The body is fairly solid but has a lot of surface rust because there is just so much missing/flaking paint. I kind of wanted to keep the patina, but I think the paint truly needs attention to keep the rust from actually getting to the car. I might sand it down and shoot it semi-gloss black or something. Not sure on that yet.
One interesting note was that I noticed a dual reservoir master cylinder was present on the car, which is definitely not stock. I peeked under the wheels out of curiosity, and sure enough, it’s already had a disc conversion done!
I think this engine is pretty well shot!
Numbers come back as 1974 F or X body.
Generic 993 heads.
Overall it’s both a little worse and a little better than I expected. I think I’ll just clean it up inside and out, make sure the steering, brakes, and suspension are in good shape, and just build a mild 350 for it and cruise. I have a good crank, rods, and roller cam from a Vortec 350 laying around, along with a new HV oil pump. This car has a brand new timing set. The local machine shop will set me up with a 1 pc rms/roller ready block completely machined and ready to assemble for $600 (worst case if it needs everything). I’ll most likely also get a set of flat tops and maybe a pair of Vortec heads and leave it at that. Should be an inexpensive, healthy motor that would be well matched to the car.
