I just picked up a near perfect 67 malibu drivers door with the intention of using it on my 66SS. My question is this, would you weld up the 6 or 7 holes from the 67's door molding and use it on a 66? Or, am I better off trying to find a 66 door in the same shape and selling the 67 door. I'm thinking it really shouldn't be too big a deal to weld up the holes if I'm careful not to overheat the panel. Any opinions or first hand experience with this? Thanks in advance.

You can weld the holes up no problem. Use a piece of copper or aluminum as a backing plate as you plug the holes. The weld won't stick to the copper/alum and you can get pretty flat welds against it. Of course it would be better to have an SS door but this can be done quite easily. Take your time to keep the heat down.

Hi 67Shovel, Thanks for the reply. I do have the copper plate to back up the hole for welding. I was just looking for feedback from someone who has done it, before I dive into it. I will use this door (rust free doors are difficult to find up here). I will be careful not to heat up the panel too much. Fortunately, the holes are relatively small (~1/4" wide by 1/8" tall).

Thanks again,
Tom
