Blew up my 496 a few weeks ago; threw a rod. Motor had problems and just bought the car recently with little known about it. So it's time to rebuild and looking for recommendations. I'm in the process of taking out the motor but also looking at a crate motor. Have been looking at skip white assembled motors, rolling assembly. Suggestions? I would like 650 hp and I do drive a little hard.
If you don't need follow up and support etc then skip white can be alright . A bargain for the parts without a doubt but its a one date deal with those guys . Follow up and support sucks . Kind of needs to be weighed out on an individual basis . You can definitely save money goin that route though .

Work backwards.
What do you want the CAR to do ?
What type of motor and how big to get there .
Does the transmission and gears and suspension that exist support what you want the car to do ?
If not do you have the budget to do all that?
Seen alot of guys sink a bunch of money into a mill that doesn't have a supporting cast lol
Then what ?

I'm going to REITERATE GM man's STRATEGIC THOUGHTS! This is like choosing an investment without an investment policy. Design the car, its use, and its goals, AND THEN the powertrain system to get it done.

PS thanks for the tip on Mark. I may have to let our local machinst work my virgin 400 sbc block.

That is because there is not one. 4.25 stroke, and my 467 has out ran many.
That's what I was trying to point out politely as a question.
I'm with you, I like my little 4.00" stroke motor.
When people ask what it is, I tell them the truth that it's a 35 over 454.
It's not my fault they assume .035" when its .350" and 532 cubic inches.

I have a feeling I'll be giving a few street cars with 540's, 555's, 565's etc. fits.
They won't be expecting the N/A horsepower of a Wolfplace big block from Mike Lewis.

and I wouldnt run a .100" over block on the street. Race car stuff only. Mr Jones and I discussed this, he couldnt get the right slugs, and I said dont bother. Aint no MAX EFFORT race engine by G*d.

Call VORTECPRO, If you are lucky he can have one ready by spring. The 467 is MORE than adequate.
I just sent Mark a check, his ETA is Sept....
