67 Chevelle / S60 rear / 295/55/15 tires / 15x10 wheels w/ 5.5" BS

Rear Passenger tire hits outer wheel well by 1/2" - See pics below
Rear Driver tire close but it fits - See pics below
Body & frame measurements are all spot on and straight
S60 measures 60" overall, need to verify a few other measurements
  • Are there any adjustments that can be made to get 1/2" more out of passenger side (move from outside wheel well toward frame) w/o getting pushing the driver side out of whack ?
  • Any ideas I'm missing here on what could be out on passenger side only ?

Rear Driver tire fits - Close but fits

Body might not be centered on the frame. My bucket of bolts has a fair amount of offset toward the passengers side. You can center the rear up somewhat with adjustable control arms.

The PassengerSide Fender could be off due to a accident
and it was not Repaired with the same curve in it as the DriverSide

I have a S60 and the same size Wheels/Tires on my 67

If your Rearend is Centered / I centered mine with UMI Perf Adjustable Upper Rear Control Arms
and then took off the Chrome Trim on/of the PassengerSide only

Trimmed OFF some of the Fender Metal where the Tire was close to Rubbing
but did not touch where the Chrome Trim Screws attach to the Metal Fender so I could reinstall the Chrome Trim

The whole back end is new. I checked it against another 67 body. That’s not where the issue is.
it does have rear suspension from ABC Performance. There is something going on with the rear axle.

The rear can be moved over within the frame without changing the pinion angle by adjusting the upper control arms. (Assuming yours are adjustable). UMI has a video on it. I’ll try to find it

Edit:
Found it

FWIW, you're not the first one to post that question on this board. It isn't that uncommon, and I suspect a number of these cars were like that right from the factory. You can remove the chrome trim piece and cut it with a cut off tool. If that isn't enough you can even go more extreme by cutting off the fender lip from the 10 O'clock to the 2 O'clock position, so you're only left with 2 or 3 less screw holes for the chrome trim piece. But that will also leave you with two open ends in the body which you'll need to fill with body sealer.

It's either that or you'll have to be content with P275/60/15 tires. But be forewarned that if you do cut off part of the fender lip with an air powered cut off wheel, you'll need a very steady hand to avoid screwing up your paint job. This is what I had to do to both of the rear wheel fender lips on my 70 Chevelle to fit the P315/60/15 tires. Notice that I only cut from the 10 O'clock position to the 2 O'clock so that many of the mounting screw holes for the chrome trim were left in tact on the fender lip itself, so that I can still secure the trim piece to the body. I did this AFTER the car was painted, so I used a firm two handed grip on my air powered cut-off wheel tool, because I didn't want the wheel to kick and screw up the outside of the quarter panel. I also did this with the work area at eye level with the car on my brother's lift, which probably made it easier.

Could you not have this issue with one 67 axle and one 68 axle ?
They are a half inch different iirc.
He has an aftermarket rear end. So while I wouldn't say it's impossible, with an aftermarket rear end, which is an S60 rear made by Strange Engineering, I kinda doubt it. Mainly because lots of other Chevelle owners over the years have had the same issue as he is having.

Have you measured from the LCA mount to the outside of the axle where the wheel mounts on both sides to see if they're the same? mines 1/4" out on the pass side but it's from a spacer in the carrier

You can move it over with the control arms but although you may gain on one side you will take from the other. I think you will need to do some trimming.
i did that before I painted the car for that reason. There is no more trimming that can be safely done.

yes I did
