Anyone
I have an all original 1971 El Camino 454 SS with matching numbers, Cowl induction, original M22 trans, bucket seats, air shocks, etc, I have a partially distroyed window sticker from the top of the gas tank but would like to have a clean copy for showing or sale. Can anyone help me find one?

What you removed from the top of the gas tank is a build sheet and very different from a window sticker. My suggestion would be to search for another more complete build sheet perhaps in the interior. Aftermarket/ reproduction build sheets and window stickers are available. However to the trained eye they are easily spotted as fakes. IMO displaying a fake build sheet or window sticker or any other repo document would place the authenticity of that vehicle in question.

I did mean a build sheet is what was on the tank. I have the original but it is partially destroyed. It still shows most of the options it came with but looks really bad. I want to get a clean one. Where should I look?
Thanks Big DLV

Hey Brad
I am new to this posting stuff. Thanks for the info. Yes it is a build sheet that I need. I have the original but it is partially missing. Where do I look for this?

Thanks- Dennis

I would suggest if you really think you need to show some kind of document at a show then use the original. Showing a "Reproduced" document is much worse than showing the original. If you are using it as a document to bolster the sale of the car then again you want to show the original even if it is in rough shape. As mentioned there might be other copies somewhere in the car like under the carpet or under the seat in the springs. If the car is matching numbers as you say then that is evidence enough that the car is real.

Thanks 12309

Look inside the front fenders. Look through the passenger side hinge pillar with door open. One may be glued to fender.

They tend to be found in certain places according to what plant the vehicle was built at. Typical spots are under the carpet, stuck to back of door panels, in the seat springs, on top of glovebox, in between fender and inner fender and the most famous is on top of gas tank.

Man you just cant trust anything anymore these days, even a build sheet from a chevelle.

Both my build sheets had damage to them. I scanned them and used photo editing to combine them to make as close to 100% build sheet I could.

If you only have one you could try to find a copy of one that has your options and do the same just for display.

Welcome to Team Chevelle I have a 71 ElCamino SS too with the exception that yours has the 454 that the guy who bought mine should have ordered. My original L48 350 & M21 is long gone so I'll be replacing it with a 71 454 out of a Corvette.
Listen to what has been said about buying a replacement build sheet.People will know straight away that it's a fake and then they'll think your 71 El Camino SS is a fake too.You don't want or need that.
Take care of what ever you have left of the build sheet that you already have and preserve it as best as possible. Take some of the interior apart as carefully as possible (if it's still the original interior) and look inside the front seats and the rear seats. Look under the carpets and padding.
Common spots for assembly line workers for hiding them were inside the seat backs, under the seat bottoms and insidethe rear seats tops and bottoms. Also above the gas tank and inside the front fenders stuck there is another spot.

What factory was your ElCamino built at ? because certain plants hid the build sheets in the same places all the times. The letter in the middle of your VIN tells you where the car was originally built. By letting TC know that we can tell you where the most common hiding spots were.

My '71 Chevelle SS is a Kansas built. I was fortunate to find 3 build sheets; two in the back seat and one above the gas tank. Between all three, I have a complete build sheet.
