Kraft Mac n Cheese and Tyson Chicken nuggets.... my kids grew up on them (but then again that was 20 years ago), so not sure what's out there now.

Me, I'd cut up some good steak in small pieces and get that boy growing with some beef in his tummy.

My kids loved steak when we started giving it to them (we went broke doing it as we got older). My boys would eat 2 lb steaks and wanted more.

5 lbs of mashed taters gone every meal. Boy I'm glad they live on their own now. 😁

My son is 4 now and we did baby led weaning, what we ate he ate. Grilled chicken, breaded chicken, roasted chicken, steak, wild caught fish, sweet potato's, salad, Almond Butter, Peanut butter, eggs, pancakes, waffles, yogurt, fruits and veggie's. As far as drinks, milk, water, watered down OJ. We tried to stay organic as much as possible.

Healthy home cooked is the best. So much of todays foods have chemicals that are not good for the little ones development. You never heard of ADT or Autisim when I was growing up in the 50's and beyond. Heck they put round up in the seeds for the farmers!! Then metals are not good for the brain. Soft drinks are the worst for any age, especially the Diet ones with aspertaine. Too much dairy causes inflamation as well. Sugar and diabetes and over weight is not wonderful, even though we like it! Too much meat is not good for the heart. Veggies, fruit and good sugar free cereals and fruit drinks. Just because they like it and grew up with it does'nt mean it is good for them. My daughter and my 5 wonderful grandchildren are Vegan and are healthy as any kids and love the homecooked foods she makes for all three meals, play outside most everyday and video games on Friday night. The 8,10, and 12 are into sports, and do very well and all are home schooled. Sorry about the preech but it is important that we do the very best to raise good, healthy, smart kids. One proud Grandpa.

First and foremost, don’t give up on a food just because they say they don’t like it the first time. Try and try again. I make a Mongolian beef that my 7 yo didn’t like in her younger years that she loves now. Keep at it if you like it, my rule has been “if I eat it, I expect you to eat it.” And there have been a couple of dishes I chucked and said I’m not making you eat this. They say not to make it a battle but that never worked for me, they ended up hangry later and melted down again and was a vicious cycle.

For a 20mo old I would avoid red meat as it can be hard to chew and food gets pocketed in the cheek and frustration follows. Caveat is ground beef or the like.

stock a few fruit and veggie pouches as well for those “oh crap” times.

it’s tough to cook full dinner meals that can take an hour to make with a toddler, especially because they all seem to struggle with the 4:00 hour timeframe when you might be trying to get a meal going. I found it easier to keep it simple but healthy, something you can stick in an oven and set a timer to engage with them for 5-10 minutes while it cooks helps.

Breakfast - they usually wake up hungry and have limited time to prep any big breakfast. I’ll mix in 2-3 of these for a breakfast meal, cut up to whatever size portions are safe.
Bagel and peanut butter/cream cheese/butter
Peanut butter toast
Appropriate yogurt, low in sugar as possible
Banana
Avocado
Waffles with peanut butter
Pancakes
Eggs scrambled or hard boiled
Oatmeal

lunch is usually a mix of protein, a vegetable and a fruit.
proteins are usually
  • Deli meat sandwich or wrap or homemade lunchable
  • Cheese / cottage cheese
  • Aidells chicken and pineapple meatballs or sausage
  • Regular meatball with whatever dipping sauce
  • hot dogs are a rarity
  • grilled cheese
  • peanut butter and jelly
  • bean and cheese burritos

veggies are usually
  • edemame beans (microwaved from frozen)
  • Black beans
  • butternut squash baked and mixed with cinnamon
  • sweet potato
  • bagged corn
  • garden burger veggie patty
  • steamed carrots with a little butter or brown sugar, once the two year molars are in we switched to small carrot stick
  • steamed broccoli and grated cheese all mixed into a mush

fruits
  • fresh berries and cherries
  • pears
  • applesauce
  • apples
  • kiwi
  • mango (Costco pre-cut)
  • grapes cut small

dinners
  • ground beef or bison tacos or nachos (use mild taco seasoning) beans and rice. My kids just liked the meat and cheese but you get tacos...win.
  • baked or grilled chicken using some sort of brown sugar or smoked seasoning. Corn or mashed potatoes or canned green beans (canned tends to have less or more tender strings than fresh). Cut it up really small and mix with mashed potatoes if needed
  • pulled pork and sweet baby rays brown sugar bbq sauce with tater tots or any of the above vegetables
  • pineapple and chicken skewers or sub in chicken meatballs or sausage on the skewer.
  • pasta (penne or rotini) and meatballs
  • chicken noodle soup

  • For drinks it’s water, milk or honest juice box (it’s just juice but cut with more water to reduce sugar)

Thanks guys! Yes, I have seen those juice/food pouches-- I guess they have a lot of sugar. He doesn't seem to have any food allergies at the moment, yes only water no soft drinks. He likes to drink from adult cups but I mostly drink ice water.

Mac and Cheese with cut up hot dogs in it.Or take him to Hooters as bait and you won't be single anymore.
LOL, ah man I am staying away from the ladies..no luck and bad situations. I am kind of like Phil Collins but without the money and fame! Actually; I don't think there are any Hooters in my area anymore,

Green beans cooked on the stove with a dollop bacon grease or diced bacon in them and diced onions or dried onions.
My grandson is almost 2 and will eat those off his plate until they are gone.

Beans are good food also he has been eating all kinds of things for many months.
Spicy things he does not care for ...yea I figured he would not but he always wants to try what we are eating.

We eat a lot of deer meat that can be turned into burger, meatloaf , mild jerky or taco meat.
If you give him mac and cheese add the taco meat to that.

Wife adds fresh cut spinach to the scrambled eggs.

He loves some fried fish also.

Of course you must let all that hot food cool before serving it to them or they will get turned off.
Prunes .
Raisins.
Dried fruits of many kinds are never turned down.

My kids loved sardines in tomato sauce.
Chili and cornbread was also eaten and not turned down by my kids or grand kids when they were that young age.
Mild not spicy.

I guess asking on a Chevelle site (a question completely unrelated to the site) makes vastly more sense than doing an internet search.
This section is called bench racing and is meant to ask non Chevelle questions,
