I have an elderly relative that has owned houses in Ocean City since 1966 and I grew up in the summers right across from the shopping center in one of the houses, heck, it was once a dune and I remember going to the lagoon that was back there.

Anyway, H20i was there this weekend and they sure were a bunch of jerks. I enjoy being around young people, I have two kids around the age of these people. Is this ours's and the car culture's future? This generation wants respect, doing this stuff will not lead to the respect and change they want. Excuse the language in the videos:

From the YouTube video description: "The Unofficial H2Oi in Ocean City Maryland is no longer just a place to chill and cruise the strip. It has turned into mass chaos where idiot teenagers run around with their phones out screaming F*** 12 and starting fights. It is literally just one giant banger meet all weekend. 252 Cars impounded as of Saturday evening... OCPD shut down the north and south bound lanes of Coastal Highway Friday night. They funneled everyone into 62nd street and across the 90 bridge and made them take the long way around. Most sat in traffic for 4 hours. I've seen fines up to $4k and they are charging $550 for exhaust tickets. I've also seen them impound stock cars. Tint, vinyl, stickers, camber, lowered, exhaust, stretched tires, they will get you for any and everything. OCPD has brought in backup and they have State Troopers, Bikes, Horses, doo doo spray and speed bumps to lay down. "

BTW, each impound is about $1000 and the cars have to be towed from the impound lot. I bet Rt 90 and US50 and Delaware are raking it in today pulling over these violators heading home.

I went to a cruise last night that I had not been to for a while, its now 90% late model and younger folks. I have as foul a mouth as anyone, and use it on a daily basis, the the level of obscenities and especially their volume will keep me from returning.

...and the girls were as bad or worse than the guys! I swear a lot in normal conversation at work, (a dealership service department) but I'd never holler such things across a crowded parking lot. I will say there were no burnouts or loud stereos, the organizers of the cruise have worked too long and hard to keep this going to allow that kind of behavior. I like modern muscle, and have had a few new Mustang GT's, but row after row of them was a bit much. There were a couple of older Corvettes, and a Hemi Belvedere, along with a '63 Falcon convertible with a Coyote stuffed into it, but that was pretty much the extent of old cars. This cruise used to bring a lot of nice old cars, I just wonder if other "older" folks feel the same as I do, and have stayed away. I AM in favor of anyone interested in cars, especially younger guys, and like to see what they've done, but I'm over this one.

Out here in the west, we get a lot of "sideshows" which draw large crowds... Impromptu meets based on social media, where people would hang out and drive like idiots...

I remember back in the 80's and 90's, we'd congregate, people would race, but it was otherwise pretty well behaved events... AND, we were MILES outside of town...

Of course, when the cops started shutting down the ordinary weekend Cruise locations, the participants had to go elsewhere... And with social media, they can now tell everyone where to meet...

Most large car events (I have been to Hot August Nights for the last 26+ years, and I have seen videos on Woodward Ave, etc), will have some crazy people, doing burnouts, "launching" their car, drivers drinking, crazy people walking around (maybe drunk?)...

Perhaps its like that music you used to play. You know the stuff your parents hated...

This is the result bad parents caving into bratty kids and giving them anything they want instead of the ass beating they more than likely deserved.
Fart Can Convention

Thats not a scene i will ever be into. Newer stuff is just not my bag, i would rather go look at the banged up 1970 camaro, chevelle, gto, (take your pick) than any of what i saw in that video.
This is the culture that loves to pull up next to me on the highway doing 70, rev their motor and then floor it for 4 seconds so i can see how fast their car is.

IDK if its relevant here, but in my P/T teaching gig I was chatting with a sociology professor. Both of us come from a Jesuit tradition, so we understood one another implicitly. His take way for the ONE thing that has set up many of our ills today, including this I believe, .. is parents telling kids " do what you want to do, do what makes you feel good".

That is some lazy-azz stuff right there. The more I think on it,. the more I believe he 's got it mostly right. There ya go Tom Rightler, you are of the same opinion as a professional educator who was going to be a priest; and i do believe you are both spot on. Its the LAZINESS of parents that allowed this. AND YOU DONT HAVE TO ASS BEAT THEM EITHER.

Lack of Reverence and Respect, which are typically learned at an early age, would be the other factors.

Having grown up with grandparents and parents where the woman did not work outside of the home, I felt very guilty after I got married and we wanted to have kids. My wife and I worked for 5 years to try to position ourselves where she could quit working. As lower middle class couple of wage earners we could not get where she did not have to work. We absolutely KNEW that it was an undesirable situation 40 years ago. We worked hard and had the help of her parents to mediate the risks of kids being at home or unsupervised.

With the divorce rate and the abundance of single parent 'families' (and I use the term loosely), it's not surprising to me how society is devolving. This is especially true in the black community where a significant amount of black males have children out of wedlock with multiple women and don't play a significant role in the care and development of their children. Where do too many of them get their development from? Perverted street culture.

Children are our future and only hope! We better get our collective excrement together and take care of them or car culture will be the least of our worries.

Tint, vinyl, stickers, camber, lowered, exhaust, stretched tires, they will get you for any and everything.
And this right here explains it all. While I am not defending the punks who do stupid things, this proves that it is ALL about the money. Stickers?? Vinyl?? Really?? Neither of those has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with public safety. Neither does tint or exhaust.

That's not "car culture"
That's a culture of hood-rats who happen to have similar bad taste in cars.

I graduated from Du Val HS 69 - Loaded up my 63 Impala SS went straight to OC. $3 bunk, 25 cent pizza slice, gas 37 cents a gallon. Parked at the all day parking lot down by the inlet. Went to OC whenever we could, after getting married my father in law had a condo behind the Green Turtle on Jamestown RD. 2010 was it for me, if you got there early you were stuck in one spot, better off walking. The board walk was sketchy in the evening.

Moved to Florida 2013 car shows down here are the way they used to be. I miss Carlisle PA the most.

Our usual cruise night turned into a mess of hunreds if not more punks, thugs gangbangers wtih cars hopping, BLM shirts everywhere it was out of control. SOS you see on YT..most of us havent nor will be back. Cops were everywhere they could care less just kept acting the fool. Wonder if anyone got shot...lots of fights and guys looking for one. Even a guy walkng around in his cuts from a 1 percenter club being the :"bait" looking for trouble. 50+ yr old grown men, come on! losers...
Idiots ruin everything. So looking for another spot, another night where civilized people can hang out again.
Only takes one idiot on social media 10 seconds to organize this
