Both are high quality mufflers. Can't go wrong with either. The Ultra-Flo does "flow" better.

I swapped out my Flowmaster 40's on my sbc 355 truck for the Hooker Aero Chambers and I could not be happier. They have the rumble the FM's had, but not the irritating loud cackle sound.

I had the ultra-flows for about 4 weeks and just did not like the sound. I thought they were very cackly (like glass packs) and to my ears only sounded good at wide open throttle. I took them off and put the flowmaster Super 40s on and I think they sound a lot better, even better than the standard 40 series. Again that is just my opinion. Everyone has a specific sound they like.

Ive had Ultraflos on mine for 5 yrs or so, 3"-H pipe-dumps at the rear, I love the sound and get lots of comments on how it sounds going down the track. No glass pack cackle here. Flowmasters belong on Mustangs ;)

Flowmasters are junk. That and they lost horespower for me on the cars I tried differentcompanies on. I run 3" dynomax large body Super Turbos with the 20" case, sounds great.

I have 14+ year old Flowmasters on my car with 3" headpipes and 2.5" tails..I thought they might be restrictive (never made a run open headers yet) but last time I was at the track I went 107.96MPH,107.91 and 108.01 thru the exhaust,so they can't be that bad.
And I have a mild flat tapped hydraulic (223.231 @.050)
Wouldn't mind trying some Ultraflows, but I would need to make an open header pass for a good comparison.

yep, with firsthand testing to back it up. On my old 92 Z28 with the L98 the flowmaster 43083 made 11rwhp less at the peak than the Dynomax 17227 that ended up staying on the car. I think avg loss was 6hp and 4tq. I have more data at home from previous tests, but thats what I have at work.

It's YOUR car, so pick what muffler(s) suit you.
