We have a Toyota mechanic in our local group of "car guys & gals" who has been performing frame replacements full time for at least five years now. I believe he can get two done per week! He drives an original 396/325HP 4-speed 1969 Chevrolet Wagon fwiw.

So, after talking to the dealer, i ended up talking to Toyota Customer Care. Basically, they said to have the frame inspected at the dealer, and that the frame is actually warrantied now until November of 2022. Basically, if there is an area rusted through 10mm or bigger, its a new frame. I have one area on the ear for the cab mount that is rusted through. dont know if that qualifies, but hopefully they will take appropriate actions now or in the future. I didnt find anything else that was of huge concern to me when i cleaned it up, but there are boxed areas i cant quite inspect. I have started a case # and hopefully can attach the inspection and any other documentation to that.

With this, i sort of feel like the only place to re-sell this truck would be at a toyota dealer, especially if things start to really go down hill with the frame.

I have one of the first 2000 Tundras. TOA notified me a few years ago about the frame issue. Took it to the dealer and they said..." you need a new frame" (only a couple finger size holes). So they had it for 3 days and loaned me a car. I received an itemized list of parts replaced. It was pages long. I figured between parts and labor they easily put 10K into my truck. Most cases they would buy you out, but they said my truck was in such good shape, they went ahead with repairs. They broke a bunch of stuff along the way and replaced all of it. It was like getting a new truck

It goes in tomorrow to have the frame inspected. i will definitely point out the one place i found on the cab mount support where there is a hole. I think from now on, i will have them do my PA state inspection, its due in February, so it should see some nasty PA winter salt between now and then. I mean, at this point, if they do my PA safety, and tell me there is an issue with the frame, (now warrantied until November 2022) to me it basically means they need to replace it.

I thought they fixed the rust u
issue before the 2011 model year. we have a 11 and a 17 tacoma but in tucson I hope we dont have the rust issues like they do back east. heck my 50+ year old classics aren't rusted. jim

I thought the same when i bought it. I doubt you will have issues being in AZ. Its kind of odd, the rust was really concentrated on where anything was welded to the rails. The rails themselves are not too bad, but there is an area mid frame where its boxed a little and sort of double framed, and where the 2 pieces overlap is pretty ugly.

And yeah, its a little weird the frame on the 8 year old vehicle is the concern when the others are 46 and 49 years old. They dont make them like they used to.
