My brother and I had `67 SS's. The only options on his were tinted windshield and AM radio. With open 3.31's and a 3spd his best time was a 14.22. On that run he barely beat a brand new Hemi Road Runner. (Before the night was over the Hemi was running 13.7's). My Chevelle was a L-34, M21, 3.55 posi and it's best time pure stock was 14.06. I've always wondered what would have happened if we swapped engines or had him drive mine.

In the early '70's, there was a guy who was a regular at the old Houston Internationl Race Track in Dickinson Texas who had a '68 325 HP 4 speed Chevelle that was stock except for the Atlas Bucron tires. It ran consistent 14.50's.

I remember the car so well because he had an ongoing feud with a 455 Cultless Supreme that he never beat.

By the way. That old track was just about at sea level. No "correction" needed.

Atlas Bucron tires. I remember those. They would really bite.!

I raced at Eastex Speedway. There was a Black 427 Impala that showed up every time I raced and took the trophy from me by half a fender...EVERY TIME !!! :crying:
