Can someone offer ideas on how to stop (or diagnose) squeeling pulley noise? I replaced a faulty water pump and alternator about a year ago. All belts are new and have proper tension. The squeeling persists. I've tried belt dressing and lube around the center of the pulleys. The noise continues, especially when it's raining, damp or high humidity. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a 350 in a 64 P.U. and could not get it to quit squeeling. I ended up putting a double WP pulley and a tripple lower and adding a belt that just went around the two. I had to "roll" it on but it never squeeled again.
You might be abla to add a idiler pulley somewhere if there is a long stretch on the belt someplace.

I would take the belts off and look at the pulleys for glazing, take some scotchbrite and deglaze the working surface of the pulleys and set the belts to the proper tension. While overtightening may solve a squeek temporarily it will put undue stress on associated components leading to shortened lives for them and the belts. Just a thought

Use a bar of cheap hotel soap. With the car running, just hold it on the under side of the belt and let the belt chew into the soap. Repeat for the other side of the belt. You will find the squeeling belt, and this will stop the squeeling for a day or so.

My problem was from a weak bracket that did not allow me to tighten the belt without "bending" the bracket mount outward as I got things really tight. So, I had to find ways to limp buy. :)

Ditto on the paint being present. I recall I had a similar problem and the replacemsnt belts I used sat either too high or too low in the groove meaning the thickness of the belt was different (its been years, I cant recall)-Got replaced and problem stopped.
