I probably already know the answer to this but here goes. My 67 Chevelle is getting a 427 with AFR heads. I’ve talked with Dan and he assures me his 2 inch primary headers will fit my vehicle with no issues. He’ll engineer them to work with the raised exhaust ports on the AFR’s.

Here’s the thing, coated they will run me approx. $1800. That’s really expensive.

I’ve seen Lemons headers. They are a work of art. A guy in town stuffed a 502 into an 80’s Camero and Dan engineered him a pair of headers that fit perfect.

I’ve read the numerous threads here about what headers fit a big block equipped 67 Chevelle and the responses are all over the map and often contradict one another. Throw in the AFR heads and things really get muddled.

So here’s the question, are Lemons worth it? Does any other company offer anything close in quality that will fit my application without denting the hell, out of them? That’s not an option either. I’m in no way questioning the quality of Lemons work. Based on what my vehicle is, I’m having a tough time justifying spending that kind of money if something less pricey that works well is out there.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

If you have 1800 of disposable income, ease of changing plugs, starter, clearing everything and a big plus EYE candy when you pop the hood!
If you don't, you beat up a pair, stuff them in and deal with everything else like the rest of us! :D
This is coming from a tiny small block guy tho.... that reads all the BB threads. :D

Joe, I can only comment on what I have which is original 396 with stock heads and power steering.I have Hedman Elites and they fit my set up without a single ding. My guess is the Lemons will fit your set up and are most likely higher quality but they cost four times as much.
A friend recently addressed this issue with a big block in a 71 Nova. And power steering. He had to dent his headers pretty good. Through some research found that Doug headers will f I t his application without any dings. That is because those headers have a unique routing of the tubes.
If this is a car that you will keep for a long time the Lemons may be worth it but I wouldn't expect to get the difference in return when selling.

Anyone running a manual trans with a Quicktime bell housing, BBC, winged oil pan, and angle milled AFR heads? That would be a problem for Dan I would assume. I can get my oil filter out with my Hedman's, but I had to message (smash) my collector to access my oil filter. A K&N filter with the hex on the bottom helps, too!

I suppose it depends on your definition of "is something worth it"?

Jackie, how hard is it to get #8 plug out?

Best fitting headers I used are Dougs d322. I was tired of my beaten up Hedman 65002’s.i was also cosiddering lemons but couldnt justify the price.
Crazydavey recomended the d322 to me, no dings or dents but was tight fit against passenger side a-arm(clearanced the arm) and ps coupler. Also mush easier to change spark plugs with the Dougs headers vs the Hedman.

But my car is a 64 with brodix race rites and exhaust ports in oem location.

Daveys car is a 67 and has afr 305 with raised exhaust ports and he said that they was a direct fit no dings or dents.
Dougs d322 are pretty expensive for non custom headers.

Got a set of Lemons in the box out in the shop. Work of art and waaay over 1800.00, powder coated chrome if I remember correctly. If you choose Lemons pay very close attention to what Dan tells you.
You won't be disappointed to say the least.
But then again they are not going on just an old beater.
Talked with Mark last night, he had my 496 on the dyno. North of 650 on both the HP and torque.

Take the hit on the Lemons. You will NOT regret it once you get over the cost. They are miles ahead of the production headers sold elsewhere.
been down this road trying to buy a header that is just good enough to work. I payed over 1000 bucks for a hooker super comp coated header with a 2 1/8 tube with one tube outside of the frame that I still had to beat flat to make fit in my 70ss, they went in the dumpster when i got my lemons with a 2 1/8 tube that fit all of the tubes inside the frame and i did not have to touch one tube with my ballpeen hammer. and instead of taking me 3 hours to change plugs it now takes 15 minutes. no contest. spend the money, you won't regret it.

If you dont mind me asking what did they cost?
Also if I understand Lemons does not come coated. One must send them elsewhere. Does Lemons recommend a particular coater?

BLM,

Lemons can send them to their coated for an up charge. The 2 inch headers I’m looking at are $1500: the coating is 455.

2721.00 total cost. 1500.00 is base price
headers, coating, shipping coast to coast, power master, 225.00 and change, copper gaskets, 80.00 +or -, SS bolts 80.00 + or -, best connector, $$.

Coating, Dan can have it done or you have it done yourself.
I like the one stop shopping idea.

Starter, most anything might be rigged to work but busted knuckles and bummed up headers are no fun.

2 cents.

#8 isn't a problem. #7 is the bugger. In between the header, the steering shaft, and booster, it's a real pain.
But not impossible.

I don't have a problem with bugger, my mom called me that many times! :)

Anyway, I can just touch #8 with the tip of my finger from underneath the car. That's why I have to remove my header to look at the plugs on the right side. I just can't bring myself to buy Lemons. I've already spent a ton on this car. Maybe sometime down the road...
