Have an opportunity to purchase a 70 chevelle malibu w/42k original miles, 307, immaculate interior, could use a paint job, but not too terrible! No signs of visible rust, motor CLEAN, underside in great shape... has original tires & wheels, numbers match, 2 speed powerglide (i believe thats what my husband said) on the floor... was asking $9500, can get it for $7k. I'm more into 69 ss's, so i'm not much up on the 70 malibu's... anyone have an opinion on whether we should jump on this or let it go?? thanks for any opinions.

I agree with 4MuscleMachines,
if it's not your thing, don't get it... wait and get what you want or something you can turn into what you want. but if you do pass this up, let others know who might be into 70's more than 69's.

JMHO..

I like the low miles but if it were me I would hold off for what you really want. Not sure how much a non ss malibu '70 is worth? I suppose it would need to be discounted as is the current case in need of a paint job. Is it the original owner? Does it have the POP (Protecto Plate), a metal card used for warrenty and service issues that was given to the new owner at the time of delivery. Any original paper work? These things bring value to the table with other investors / collectors, if you were considering "flipping" it.

Definately worth more with a 3 speed automatic. Much more desirable. Both were available as options (3 speed manual was standard equipment), the 3 speed TH350 being just a little more money. The 2 sp Powerglide is like taking off in 2nd gear, much better performance with the 3 sp. I just converted my '69 Malibu from 307 PG to (stock) 350/TH350. What a difference.

It's possible to convert from PG to TH350
It is a bolt in change. Uses the same flexplate, drive shaft, yoke, mount and crossmember location. Dash indicator and the detents on the shifter are the only thing different.

Just thought I'd let u all know... we bought it! Engine is VERY clean, but could use a little washing here & there. The inside was clean, but once I detailed it... WOW! Will need a new paint job when taxes come back next year, but other than that...she drives VERY nice!! I tried to attach a photo here, but couldn't... so, if you'd like to see a photo please take a look in my showroom! Thanks for all the advice... it has paid off!

Oh.. almost forgot! Original Protect-O-Plate info was in glove box... in prestine condition with original owners manual. Question, tho... the manual has a # on it... not like a phone number or such, like the dealer put it there. It's a 4 digit number... anyone have any ideas?
