Mark at Vortec Pro mentioned using this oil in his latest build. Anyone know the stats on ppm's on the zinc and phosphorous. Googled and couldn't find much except 2x the zinc. Their tech sheet didn't list anything.
I'm currently using VR-1 racing oil 10/30 but was always interested in finding a 10w-40 high zinc racing oil that could also be used on the street. Valvoline doesn't make a 10-40 racing oil for my situation.

Street? I thought racing oil's not for the street cuz the "zinc" will damage the catalytic converter and the additives that give "street oils" their longer usable life, e.g. detergents, etc. are not present or are in lower quantities than the regular oils. And, reading advertising copy like:

"MAXIMA RACING OILS was created for world-class racers, men and women who challenge the limits of possibility. Their demands on equipment drive us to look beyond conventional ideas and to exceed industry standards. It’s in our DNA to identify problems, formulate solutions and execute at the highest levels of competition. A simple goal to make things better than ever thought possible."

... triggers my b.s. flag. Just one man's opinion. I think the world needs another racing oil like it needs another ladies facial skin softener moisturizer rejuvenator. Must be profitable business...my $0.02

I always use Amsoil Premium protection 10W-40 synthetic with zinc (AMOQT-EA)and K-N filters
Don't know much about K-N filters but Amsoil oils are the real deal.

The Maxima oils all have "2X Zinc", so any ought be suitable. I too am concerned about using a racing oil ( my MJ467 is loaded with VR-1 now), but I;m not putting enough stop/start short hop miles on my car to cause any issue.

Not to start another best oil theme here, but just wondered if any one has started using it. If MJ uses it, you got to wonder why.
Yes, all the zinc in the racing oils shorten the life of the catalytic converters, but who is running a catalytic converter?
I'm sold on the VR-1. Just curious on the Maxima as it comes in the 10-40 which the VR-1 does not.

Phil, that's rebranded oil, like Hemmings is. Lucas, PennGrade, Amsoil, Valvoline, etc all make "hot rod" oil.

LOL, Yep. !

Must be oil for those old Nissan Maximas !

I'm curious, who on here has a car with a catalytic converter?????????
You could also mention, who has a flat tappet cam ?

Synthetics are the only way to go IMHO, unless you have a dreaded flat tappet cam. LOL

No CAT on my car

I have / use 15W40 Brad Penn Racing Oil
and
a NAPA GOLD # NGF 1060 Burst PSI = 270 / Dia 3.66” / Flow 9-11 gpm / 5.178” Hi / 21 Microns / Glass Enhanced Cellulose
in my BBC

and then you run one of the many semi-synth or all synth "flat tappet" oils Beth, and you don't have to dread a darn thing. Except losing all those bearings in the flat tappet lifters. ;)

"2X Zinc System provides maximum protection for flat tappet cams and roller cams"

You can use any oil and just add Zinc. Zinc is really important on break in but you really don’t need a lot on normal oil changes. We used to use 15/40 diesel oil because it was loaded with Z. I used VR1 because it claims to have Z. All the parts stores around here have the additive.
