1. Can I put a set of ZZ4 heads on any ol' 350 block or does it have to be 86 or newer roller block?

2. Found a set of ZZ4 heads with 10,000 miles on them for $400 for the pair. Seems like a good price. Anything to watch out for?

Yes you can.

I think those heads dont have guide plates and have self aligning rockers.

Its a torque head....

They will make about 400 ft lbs of torque with 10 to 1 compression and a @ .050 cam of less than 212.

Yes they bolt right up.

The same casting (113) was also used in the Corvette L98 from 87 to 92, but with different machining. Be sure which setup they are, as people aren't real rigorous about makign sure their description actuall matches the heads they have. The stock L98 ones were set up with much weenier valve train parts.

Most any 350 will make around 400 ft-lbs... maybe a bit more. Those heads aren't anything particularly unusual in that regard.

The "stock" ZZ4 cam was 208°/220°, .474"/.510", on a 112° LSA IIRC. The heads can stand QUITE A BIT more cam than that. For example alot of people took out that cam and put in the LT4 HOT cam, for a gain of around 20-25 HP. There's plenty of others that will work better than that.

With MILD porting they're good for a bit over 400 HP. They do not respond well to a BillyBob "hog em out" job.

ditto...bolt 'em up. Had them on a good wrench 350 with a 268H comp cam. Used Z28 springs and roller rockers. They made great torque, build a little extra compression (small chambers) and reduce weight. Great upgrade for a stock 350 if you can get them cheap. ZZ4 pull offs actually demand a little more than that on ebay generally.
