Was helping my friend tune up his 71 chevelle with 350 engine this past weekend. He has an ACCEL series 6100 Billetech aftermarket distributor. When we stopped at the parts store to pick up the plugs, rotor, cap and such, they showed that the cap and rotor he had fits Chrysler products and not Chevy. Looked it up on ACCEL's website and it does not call out for anything except Chrysler for the part number on the distributor. He bought the cap and rotor anyway and we carried them back to the house. Installed and works fine. What gives here?

Yes, Accel uses Mopar rotors and caps, no problem. Mallory uses early Mopar caps and rotors for most of their setups, and for their early distributors, earlier Mopar parts.

The engine and distributor doesn't care, why should there be a problem with those parts? Shouldn't be one. MSD uses GM window pattern parts, and those non-GM engines that run MSD distributors don't care either.

Regards,

Milton

No problem with the parts, just seems strange to order a Chrysler part for a chevy.
Yeah, just think of all those Ford 429 Cobra Jet owners...with a factory-equipped Quadrajet carb.

that Cobra-Jet Q-jet thing, I laughed out loud the first time I saw one. :) Can't imagine what Ford was thinking on that deal.

Maybe one of Ford's "Better Ideas"?
