Think about it before you answer. I can't tell you all of the things I have done in my deployments, but I can assure you it should be a well thought out decision.

I myself am no longer in the ARMY, however, I am now a father of 2 young boys (5 and 3) and have a loving wife. I will re-enlist again if it comes down to it even if it means leaving my boys. Any parent knows that it would be an almost impossible task to leave a child behind or even send one off. But think about it, it is the sacrifice that our military has made and continues to make, that ensures our freedom.

God bless the men and women of the armed forces both past and present for giving me the life I have today.

This is an unbelievable community here on TC and I have never met any of you in person, but feel close to some of you already. It is obvious that this is a very talented and educated group that makes well thought out decisions. I would love to here your comments on this issue.

I, like you, am former enlisted. If I could support my family on military pay, not starting over at E-1, and were needed badly, then yes, I would re-enlist, for the duration of the crisis.

Would I volunteer? Sorry, not this time. I spent 6 years in the Marine Corps '87-'93,served in Desert Shield and Storm with 1st Marine Div. 1st Battalion 7th Marines. Then made the beach landing in Somalia (with those assinine reporters in our way. I love this country and would defend this land but to go to the mideast again not even perhaps. I've gone to bat twice the third time would be the charm. However I support President Bush 110%. If it was Clinton he would have to carry my ammo before I would even pick up a rifle. God Bless this country and our leaders. I want to add that it was really great to see all of the politicians who have been trying to stop school prayer and completly remove God from our schools standing on the White House steps singing God Bless America.

Sure, I'd go. I did time in the Marine Corps in '71.....not much going on then. But if they agree to take me now....you should be very, very concerned (old, fat and too big of a target!) People at home can play a huge roll in supporting troops that are deployed. I do not want to start another who's right or who's wrong, but some of the people in the U.S. sure made life terrible for the people who went to Viet Nam....remember Jane Fonda?? If we do send troops off.....and you are not going, show your support at home....guys and gals doing the dirty work appreciate it.

Yes, I'd go if it's in response to the current situation.

Depends on the reason I was asked to.

For this current situation, Yes, I would. Had I been asked for D. Storm, then no, I wouldn't.

I'll fight for what's right, not for oil.

I spent time in the army in the late 80's early 90's. One of my best friends from those days lives in the bronx...Have been unable to contact him.

If I was physically capable of serving I would have been at the recruiters 10 minutes after the fall of the Towers.

I had to quit watching the news, It was getting to the point where I was in an absolute murderous rage..

So I guess the answer to your questions is

H&## Yeah!!!

I think some of you guys might have hit on something, these news people are real good at whipping this country up into a frenzy, and as 17again said, they're in the way most of the time or reporting where the President has been hid, or where we are going to attack tomorrow morning. Maybe we could march them all up on the beach ahead of the troops to interview the enemy and while they're distracted by the press end run them.

tongue firmly in-cheek here of course. Got to find some humor here, my 17 year-old just finished National Guard boot camp (infantry) and I'm scared to death cause he is as crazy as I was at his age. You know, he is going to "live forever."

Hey 17, I gotta ask if your commanders kept you from knocking out their floodlights on the beach of Somalia, man I remember them being right in your faces, blinding any night vision you might have had. I would have been tempted to get close to one of the reporters and whispering to him, "I'm wearing Kevlar, and you are not, so stay close or turn out the GD lights.."

Would I join?? NO, but considering I'm currently in service (active Army) and getting dern close to 20 years I have seen alot and been a few places too. No matter what pans out the media will be there to over report it and of course spill the game plan to WHOever the enemy turns out to be. I currently am hoping I get to retire before "stop loss" gets enacted... I'll not set foot in the desert sands of Afganistan looking for some of Mr. Bin Laden's friends and followers... That my friends is a "Fools Gambit" and we'll be there forever and end up looking just like the Russians did over there. Just my .02 worth though...

I'm over 50 and fought in vietnam, my son is 24 and who I thought was just a dead beat living at home, he told me that he wouldn't enlist but would go in a second if drafted, during the Gulf war he was scared, but he now says his guts are in a knot over this and needs to vent, I'm not bragging but he's 6'3", 295lbs., has a brown belt, can bench his own weight easily, they call him Bubba, he told me he would love to meet them face to face with out a gun.

Man, I donnow. Got 2 boys to raise like many here. BUT, speak Arabic/Russian/French ( rusty as heck), Expert Rifle, Expert Grenade, trained as a 97E.....

OK only if I can be on the same squad as DZ and CFR.

Its funny Nathan, just the other day I thought about this. If it wasnt for my wife, I;d still be in. Heaven only knows where I;d be right now, but as you can see from the above on my DD214, I would most certainly have been in a good position to..

UNASS SOME DOOM ON THESE BASTARDS!

Up close and personal like.

Actually, my thought was, if I HAD still been in would this have happened??? Which leads me to the corollary, what happened? I mean I was good, but there were men better than I that I KNOW stayed in. In fact , many of the men I drank with had INTIMATE familiarity with the Afghan countryside.

WHY THE EFF DIDNT THEY NAIL THEIR ASSES AFTER THE FIRST BOMBING, or the U.S.S. COLE.????

Was the C-in-C too busy getting BJ;s from fat Jewish girls???

That really ticks me off. We have the "assets", we have the "operational intelligence", why? Why didnt we unass this ***** 5 years ago?

VOTE DEMOCRATIC! Yeah right.
