I have been debating on if i should restore or sell my 64 4dr malibu. It is in ok shape right now. I use it for school and work and i have had no problems. I have been told it is worth around $2500-$3000 given its current shape. It has bench seats 3spd manual with a 196 inline 6. I was wondering how much the value would go up with a 327 or a 350 and a 4 speed trans. Also if i added bucket seats? I know this car will never be worth a ton of money but how much are we talking if i added these parts?

Thanks

I say get to looking for a fair to decent 64 2dr to spend your $s there... keep the 4 dr just in case you need something for the 2dr as some of the first gen car parts are hard to come by! Do what you got to do ...then sell the 4 door later or keep it on the side if you really have a passion for that year of Chevelle.
If not, then send it down the road for what ever fair price you can get for it, and move on!!!

I have seen some of your past treads, and I think you should move on...if not, get serious about that more desirable and funner 2dr that most folks really like and keep, and they usually hold most of their value! JMO

The money you spend on parts will most likely cost you more than any appreciation you might see in the value of the car. In other words, you will spend more than you would get back. Don't do it for the money. If you like the car, that's ok. But not for the investment potential.

It's a cool car just as it is.

I would prefer a three in the tree Malibu with a gas saving six. It would be fun as an every day car.

If you want to throw a lot of money at a car, and see some of that money again. Get a 2 door. As stated above.

if i was to get another car i would not get a 64 2dr. I personally think the 4dr's look the same and to me it is much much more convenient. I really dont like how the 64's or 65's look anyway. So it is either keep this car or buy a differnt car. Like maybe a 67 or 68 or go with a different car. Just trying to find out the value of the car.

I like your 64 4 door but I guess the problem is most of us are re living our second childhood and 4 door may not be the part we want to remember, The reliving is either your first car or the car you wanted to be your first car. Based on that lack of logic, I would leave it alone unless this one is your dream and if it is do whatever you want with it, it should be all about you!

not a bad car but i am looking for maybe something more of a project. I am not sure what i want to do yet. being in High school money doesnt come easy so i am not sure if i want a newer car or a classic.

What do you guys suggest i ask for my car? $3000? I bought it for $2500. Put over $2000 in parts and have most reciepts. Does $3000 sound about right?

Ryan,

To answer your question. Putting in the mods you discussed will not increase the value of your car. But go ahead and ask $3000 and seen if anyone bites. Your customer market is someone who is looking specifically for a 64 Chevelle 4 door and there may not be many of them around, or someone looking for a low priced beater..
