A buddy of mine and I fired my fresh 383 today. sounds great, but she seemed to get warm , she popped out the exhaust, then slowly the idle went down and she died. its literally brand new and hasn't seen more than 3000 rpm.We did put more gas in it, and she eventually fired up. any ideas? I know this is the electrical section so in addition, my alternator is working hard, sqealing bad, I did show 13-14 volts at the meter, but now the meter is looking dead. I have no other points of usage for power. no lights , nothing, just the running motor. what would make it work so hard? a bad ground?? any help is greatly appreciated.

If the noise wasn't the belt slipping it could be the alternator bearings. I can't tell from here but most of the time it's a slipping belt.

yup it was a slipping belt. just stretched a little from the break in...tightened it up and it went away.
