I'm currently deleting my A/C in my 71 Chevelle just trying to clean up the wires under the hood and so forth and so on. How did any of you do it? (ie. how did you run the wires to clean up the appearance etc...) Any help on what wires I dont need would be of GREAT help too Im going for a show car look under the hood. Also I have info for removing some wires from the horn relay and converting your car to a 1-wire alternator. My friend did it on his 72 Nova and he said it worked awesome. Thanks again.

I was wondering if you had some pictures of your engine compartment. I'm trying to restore the A/C in my 71 Chevelle. The system seems to be blowing cool, but there are some wires that I don't know where they go. The original combination was a 307 with a powerglide. I installed a 454/TH400 out of a 79 suburban. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I'm working on the same thing. Look at my post under Heating & Cooling.

I am also interested in the horn relay wire elemination thing you mentioned in an earlier post.

FASTass and Dans54,
Both you guys need the wiring Diagram for 71 chevelle. It shows all the wiring your talking about. So Fastass, you can eliminate the wires you no longer need in your harness than rewrap the wires with harness tape. Get a new plastic wire gutter too, makes the finish project look even cleaner.Just did it 2 weeks ago, looks extremely clean. Dans54 you can see where those loose wires go. Just tonight I was trying to impress my wife with this clean eng bay. New air gap, plug wires and cleaned up wiring harness, painted headers the whole enchilada. She says when is she getting her new bedroom furniture. SH#$ !!!!!

Ive been looking in the chassis service manual but the problem is I dunno what I need to run my Heat and what I can eliminate, the wiring diagrams in the books just tell me what wire is what, not really what its purpose is, if any one can tell me exactly what wires I dont need or a web site or something I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys

FASTassCHEVELE, you mentioned what you needed to keep to run your heat. I've got a 70 AC car, the compressor is out and all the wires for it are hidden in above the wheel well under the fender.

As for the AC 'suit case' on the fire wall, there are the set of wires to the blower (which you need to keep) and to the resistor (which you don't).

If all you want is to be able to run the blower and turn on the heat, as long as your water heater valve works (mines on engine vacume)you just have to be able to run the fan which is controlled from two switches in the dash (atleast on mine)

Basically, with no AC, hidding all the wires, but leaving it otherwise all hooked up, I get heat. The only problem is no Hi on the blower, one of my winter projects.
