I bought a '65 Malibu SS that was complete except for its missing 6-cyl/3-speed. The 327 and Muncie are in, and I'm in the process of installing an engine harness and a forward lamp harness. My AIM wiring diagram shows a #12 red wire connected between the solenoid (along with the pos. cable) and a junction on the firewall. I'm clueless about this red wire. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mark,
Just did a complete wiring on my 66 Chevelle. The Red #12 is the main feed into the fuse box. You should be alright because of the connection at the sol with the battery pos. The junction block can be used to power additional items if needed.

Something doesn't sound right here.

I checked a diagram I found. The only red tapped off the starter solenoid is an option for the "tail gate power window" supply.

The main power for the car comes off the battery + connector and runs in front of the radiator to the horn relay and then around to the bulkhead connector.

The interior of the car (main power in) should not be feed off of the starter solenoid connections.

Just a helpful hint, please post in the Electrical Section for future questions. You'll get more feedback there.

On a 65 the main power for the body is a red wire that connects to a post on the radiator support then to the battery positive post.

The red wire runs across the inside of the top of the radiator support and connects to the horn relay on the driver's side of the support.

The alternator connects to the horn relay, and the hot wire to the body connector on the firewall/back side of the fuse panel connects to the horn relay.
