I just got a 71 Malibu yesterday and now I'm trying to get the wiring figured out. Before the head lights would not turn on but all the other lights worked and none of the gauges. Now the gauges work the head lights work but turn signals don't blink. They come on but don't flash. All the other lights work tho. All I did was plug in all the loose connections I could find and the dimmer switch. Any thoughts?

So at this point the "only" problem is the turnsignals don't flash?

Sounds like the "blinker can" is shot. Look up at the bottom of the dash, it should be around the right side of the steering column. Look for "thick" purple and pink wires leading to it.

It is NOT the blinker can in the fuse block. That is for the 4-way hazard flashers.

Once you find it in the dash, you can test it by swapping it with the one in the fuse block.

Also the speedo still isn't working. Don't see a speedo cable anywhere. Sorry for the questions, I'm just new to the chevelles. I've owned one for a day and getting a crash course in it. On a positive note tho the interior cleaned up nice.

No problem Ryan :beers:

The factory speedo's are mechanically driven. There should be what looks like a thick cable-tv cable going from the rear of the speedometer down past the steering column into a grommet in the floor. It can be hard to see as the firewall padding obscures most of of it. If you look under the car about where the brake and accelerator pedals would be, you should see grommet (and hopefully) this this thick cable going into the side of the transmission.

Yeah I've worked on lots of old Chevy's... old trucks novas camaros a vette... just didn't even see where a cable hooked into the back of gauge cluster. Thought maybe it was electronic for some reason. I mean I've never seen any other car with a factory rear defrost blower. Also I switched the turn signal relays with no luck. Wouldn't even light up. I'll probably go ahead and replace them anyway tho.
