Hi all, I have my new glass in and I am installing the front and rear window moldings on my 66. I did the rear first, all went very well. Same for the upper and side moldings on the front...popped right in and were nice and flush. Problem is when I went to snap in the bottom molding on the front, the molding keeps popping out. Funny, I didn't have any such problems elsewhere. I then realized that it is the clips coming off of the studs, rather than off of the trim. The studs in question are on the repro lower window channel I installed. Upon a closer inspection I see that the clips on this section bottom out against the channel before the little bump on the clip can lock onto the stud. Its only a hair off. I am wondering what are my options at this point. I don't want to remove the glass if I don't have to. I was thinking I could (carefully) shave a little off of the stud where the bump from the clip lands to let it lock in place. Other than that . . . . Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Mike

Bill, thanks so much for the quick reply! The clips I have look pretty similar (if not the same as) the ones in the bottom of the ebay ad. All the clips I have are new and came in a kit from GU. I am assuming the clips are okay because all of the other ones worked out fine (for instance, I think the clips along the top of the winshield are the same as the bottom ... only difference is I measured the height for the clips along the top and installed the studs myself). Thus, I am thinking that it may be the repro channel that is giving me the problem. For instance, if the bend in the channel (the part in which the glass sits) was a little more crisp, then I believe the clips would snap onto the studs without a problem. I am hoping to figure out a way to get these last few clips in place without too much deconstruction. Any thoughts?

Bill, I wanted to thank you. I got the clips you mentioned (came in today). I used the ones in the assortment that slide on from the side. They worked perfectly!! Thanks again for your help!
For anyone who might have this same problem, the clips I ordered were from Ground Up part number KMC-68KITA.

glad it worked out, i was going to say i always get the longish toothy looking clips if at all possible, they always seem to work better than the generic squarish looking ones, maybe thats why the factory used them?

Bob, what are the longish toothy clips you mention? I am not sure I have come across those.
Len, the side clips from the 68-72 kit really work well. You might have to tap them a little to get them seated on the stud, but it gives a good firm grip. I would also recommend, if you have the "correct" clips, put one on so you know how far down the clip should sit in the channel. The height of the "side" clips can be adjusted depending on how far over you slide them. For me, they didn't have to go all the way over to match.

i was thinking of this one but, i see now you're talking about a 66, and these show for 70 on
i'm pretty sure i used them on my 66 but that was awhile ago.
also, i thought the sqaurish clips were newer but i'm not so sure now.
there are similar clips without the "teeth" ...you'd have to cross reference to make sure they worked though. it looks like there are both types for both sets of years (66-67 and 68-72)
anyway, you can cross-check here or search for more clips, fasteners, screws etc.etc. than you can imagine.

Windshield and other clips can be purchased at you local jobber. Very often jobbers are dismissed as a source for many parts. Some even offer mini packs. Auveco makes quality clips and is one of the world's largest suppliers to shops. We stocked countless boxes of them at the shop. Some sold by vendors are not of high quality. Catalogues are available on-line or at the jobber. Vendors like Ground Up and others buy in bulk and repackage products or buy them pre-packed. You don't have to be a member of a secret society to get them.

hrd, I am pretty sure those are the ones I used.
Raven1, I know this is a really stupid question, but what does the term "jobber" mean? Does it refer to a person, a business entity (retail)? I tried to look it up but Wikipedia wasn't much help (mentioned something about producing one-off products). Just trying to learn something new!
I just found something on the web referring to a jobber as an intermediary that buys/sells products. . . but I am still wondering about the above.
Sorry, slightly off topic!
