Hello Im getting ready to install the front and rear windshield in my 66 chevelle and have a couple of questions.I sprayed etching primer around the window channel after I put in metal.Does this need to be bare metal for the windshield install. Also what is the best stuff to put the window in with.Ribbon or beutel type sealer. One last question is do you wipe the window off with any chemicals such as alcohol or anything else..thanks

The metal should be painted, so that any moisture will not create a rust spots. I used the ribbon style that you can pick up from your local auto glass, there are some different sizes. I would definately wipe it with something like alcohol or laquer thinner.

You do have your molding clips installed first don't you? I prefer the buytl tape myself and don't forgot the bottom spacer blocks
We use 3/8" thick 3M buytl tape...cost $10-$12 per box for a 15' roll. It comes with the spacers.
You'll want to install the window after the frame is completely finished painted.
And yes...DON'T forget the molding clips before installing the window!!

I bought molding clips that you use screws with.I didnt even think of installing them before the windshield. It just didnt cross my mind. This is my first total car build up.I have raced cars for a long time but have never got this in depth on one.I have learned alot on this car.I put in the dash repair strip and the rear decklid to winshield piece and had to put metal in all around the window channels. There basically wasnt any of the old welded rivets for the trim clips left in the window channels. Is there a measurement that you guys use to put the clips in or do you go off the window for location. Thanks for all your help.

Joe,
Just recently installed the windows in my '66 wagon but haven't installed the trim yet. Would a few pics help?
Kind of hard now to measure how far out the clips are installed with the window in the way.
I'll see what I can do...

I just had the front and back installed on mine. I watched/helped the glass co. guy do it. Older gentleman who has done this for many years. Not sure if a '66 is the same as a '67. Front and rear clips are different. The clip slips into the the studs on the top and bottom for the front and also the entire rear. The guy would get it started and then tap it with a wooden handle to make sure it was seated. The front has screws for the sides in the pillar to mount the clips on. Some of the screws wouldn't come out. We put the same size screw right above or below the original to put the clip. He used some type of liquid out of a can like pipe cleaner and applicator but black all around the surface. He waited for it to dry and then put the rope like black all around. After that set for awhile he put something out of a caulk gun over top of that. After a short period, he installed the windshields with the spacers on the bottom. Guaranteed no matter what they would never leak.
Trim snaps onto the clips. Hope that helps.
