I tried all year a couple years ago to get a 10 second timeslip with my new 505,managed a 11.001, I couldnt beg borrow or steal a 10.xx with the 10" ATI that I had in it, MIGHT have flashed to 4k, most likely 37-3800 as I had no playback tach. I then swapped in the 8" ATI MRT last winter and the very first pass with a 1.57 60ft, it spun to a 10.87, lots of suspension tuning and the head swap (might have been worth .20) it ran a best of 10.40 @ 125mph last year. I think a GOOD converter can be worth 3-4 tenths easily.

A 4000 stall will make your car faster, but a 5000 stall would be much faster. I'm not considering street driveability or traction, but if you are looking for maximum et you should have a converter around 1000 rpm below the point where your horsepower takes a dump. A typical conventional head BBC usually peaks hp around 6300 to 6600 rpm. So a 4800 to 5200 stall will make things happen.

On sale I think you can get them for 749.00, I think they are about 874.00 regular price  I'd say mine flashes to 5200 or so, I leave at less than 1500 rpms just so I dont redlight  :D I bought mine from KJ as he is upgrading his combo. Pricey yes, money well spent, you betcha!!

Sounds like we are all in agreement. ATI makes excellent 8" converters that will stall in the 5000 range with a mild BBC. With a three speed trans you are going to be between 5000 and 5600 (if thats your shift point) through the entire run and that is what will get you your best et, staying between peak tq and peak hp.
