Getting close to pulling the trigger on buying an LS. But after looking at the additional costs for the accessory drive brackets to fit a truck 5.3 or 6.0 engine and replace the ugly intake manifold in to my 70 Chevelle, I'm looking at an about $2k or so.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the C5 corvette has the Alternator and PS pump mounted higher so it should require any modifications.

Sure, the oil pan will need to be an expense for either engine.

But am I missing something?

Would the 2001 C5 vette LS1 fit without too much changes to it?

In the end, is it worth spend the additional $2500 to $3000 for a LS1 drop out from a recycling yard?

Has anyone done this swap with an corvette LS1 before?

Thanks Guys!

I used GM 19257325 (part number has been updated since then to 19418441) and a dirty dingo power steering pump pulley and a ATI under drive crank pulley. Had to use the smaller DD power steering pump pulley because my engine is set back as close to the fire wall as possible. It was barley touching the steering gear hose fittings.
This was on my 5.3 first and now my 6.0 stroker build. These parts can be sourced a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Good info on the pullies. Are you still using the truck intake? If not what are you using and what did that cost you?

Thanks!

The entire LQ4/accessories dropped into my 70' using the Holley/hooker forward mounts, 302-3 pan, and Dorman 300-202 power steering pulley (smaller, to clear the steering box). I'll agree the truck intake is ugly but I plan on swapping in a Fast LSXRT at some point down the road. I have a 4L80E behind it, only had to make 1 small dent inside the tunnel to clear the rear sensor.

Thanks for the reply. So I know everyone needs to purchase engine mounts and an oil pan but to clear the accessories you needed to buy the pulley and that was it? How much will a decent intake cost on top of that? And if you don't mind me asking how much did you get your LQ4 and 4L80 for? And where did you get it?

700$ for a 140,000 mile LQ4 and 500$ for a "working" 4L80e. Haven't taken it down the highway but everything is sitting in the Chassis all mocked up (currently doing body work, drive train done). I ended up rebuilding the LQ4 into a 408 stroker as it had some moderate pitting in one cylinder. That's the gamble with junkyard engines, compression and leak down tested fine but I found the pitting when I pulled the heads to swap the cam/lifters. Pulled the 4L80e apart to install the Transgo HD2 kit and perform the internal dual feed mod and everything look OK. I'm near the top of Minnesota, the engine had lots of rust scale on the block and finding a 2wd 4l80e took a lot of searching.

I used the stock truck water pump and accessory drive on my LM7 LS motor from a 1999 GMC Sierra truck 5.3 liter and its intake manifold. Fits no problem with the Holley engine mounts and the 302_2 oil pan. Also kept the truck AC compressor.

Definitely needed a one inch smaller power steering pump pulley. And the LM7 exhaust manifolds didn't fit but the Holley Hooker Blackheart headers fit perfectly.

All of this into a 70 El Camino.

Did you use the 006 hooker forward engine mounts to allow the stock ac compressor?

So it's sounding more like the truck accessor brakets are not that much of a fitment problem for a 70 chevelle?

I'm not sure of the Holley engine mount part number but this set brought the engine and transmission forward an inch to maybe an inch and a half. This was to buy me floor pan sheet metal clearance and I did not need to snip any metal for my 4L60E.

I am using the stock AC compressor on the LM7. The 70 EC frame rails and the Blackheart headers are well clear of the compressor. No big hammers needed and no bad words expressed.

You will need the F-Body Camaro halves of the engine mounts to properly lash up with the Holley engine mounts.

Certainly, the LM7 serpentine belt system ain't pretty - no shiny chrome bling. But it works and you can't beat the price.

IMO you are better off buying a C6 LS2. It’s the short water pump setup. Get a pull out and you have all the accessory brackets and Alt, power steering pump and AC comp. I picked up a 2007 Corvette LS2 with 60k miles for 3400 and sold 500 worth of parts off it. The short block was like new, just did the valve train and heads. This is going in my 55.

Thanks for your input and sorry for the late reply. You got a killer deal for that LS2. Where did you get that engine from?

Found it on Co-parts. Grand Valley auto parts more specifically but found them through Co-parts. They had a complete LS7 pullout at the time but that was 9k.
Thank you! I'll check it out.
