Here's something you don't hear to often. At middle age I decided I was getting to fat for myself.

I'm 5' 10" (maybe 9" now after two blown disks in my back) small to medium boned and topped the scales at 194# last March. More or less I've always worked out since my early 20's and I looked my best at about 175#. Which I weighed upto about 40 yrs old. So last march I made the commitment to lose 20#. I completely changed my work out, cut out alot of the crap food and snacks before bedtime stuff, no beer on week days and got down to 175 by June. Still I kinda had a small beer gut so I pushed for another 5 pounds. I figured get rid of that last little bit of fat and put 3-5 back muscle if need be.

So right about at 172 (last month) I felt I looked my best and besides the 20 years of aging on my face I almost looked the same from pictures when I was 25 yrs old.

Now here's the weird part. In the last 3 weeks I've blown past 172 and am now down to 160 and can't seem to put the brakes on. I'm starting to look like the skinny high school kid I used to be. I cut the cardio out of my work outs, started switching back to the traditional weight lifting of heavier weights and rest between sets. Even started drinking protein shakes after work outs or meals to stop losing more. Even started having a beer or two a day during week days. So far I'm just hanging out at 160, feeling to skinny.

First, I would go to a doctor. You should get a physical and make sure your thyroid levels are checked. Also make sure you are eating enough calories. Any body building website will have formulas to calculate what your food intake should be for a certain body weight. I have the opposite problem, I can look at food and gain weight thanks to a low thryoid.

I agree...go to the doctor. Could be a symptom of something more serious. Had your sugar checked lately?

Yikes, ^^^ that stuff never crossed my mind.
Like I said, wasn't trying to scare you but never leave anything to chance!
The guy I worked with was a hefty guy, about 260lbs and in two months he went down almost 100lbs! He just said he didn't know why but wouldn't see a doctor either! Of course he had other syptoms too that he never elaborated on with anyone.
Be safe, see a doctor soon!

Weight loss like you've described is a symptom of diabetes (trust me I know), I'm not saying it is diabetes, but look at the other symptoms of diabetes (frequent urination, extreme hunger or thirst, blurry vision and a few more I can't remember) and see if you can rule that one out. Good luck!

Easier said than done. I'm now one of the millions w/o any healthcare. I'll look up the symptoms see if they are similar to some things that I've notived lately.
cut the crap and get to the doc. it's not all that expensive, and you can make payments. i'm not trying to scare you either, but alive and broke, beats the hell out of dead with a few bucks saved....

Your health is WAY mre important than worring about a bill! There are social programs at most hospitals to help you pay! Doctors appointment isn't really that much and even if you can't pay the whole amount most will make arrangements if you put a little money up front on the bill.

I've had those symptoms for years. And been checked and cleared for diabetes regularly.

But I have had an ache around my liver the last two months I thought maybe it was side aches from humping the eliptical trainer to hard. Then I dug this up,

Those with pancreatic cancer describe a dull ache that feels like it's pressing inward. Many liver cancer patients say they went in complaining of stomach cramps and upset stomachs so frequently that their doctors thought they had ulcers. Liver cancer patients and those with leukemia can experience abdominal pain resulting from an enlarged spleen, which may feel like an ache on the lower left side.

I agree... go to a doctor!!! Next month makes it 2 years since I was diagnosed with cancer....I had been having some dull, nagging pains in my left side and sometimes when I took a drink (water, beer, pop) I would instantly have a stabbing pain in my left side...I went in and the doc wasnt sure what to make of it so he scheduled a CAT scan...Thats when they found a large lump on my right kidney....ended up having to have my kidney removed...The good news is that the cancer hadnt spread anywhere yet..Now I just have to have tests done every 6 months to make sure...So dont waste any time get it checked right away..

In June I weighed 270
Today I weigh 230

40lbs in 3 months lost and still losing.
My dr took blood yesterday to see if it was diabetes.

I know it isn't, I just stopped eating until I felt I was going to explode, and I walk.
I too have had major back surgery and that is when it started piling on.
That and osteo arthritis along with restless leg syndrome has caused chronic pain and the weight has been making it worse.

I will be happy when I get back down to around 180, any less than that and I will look like an aids patient.

I know that story! Never weighed more than 195 in my life until after back surgery and limited execise from that point on! The weight just piled on.
I hit 280 at the highest and now am slowly going down but not as fast as it should seeing I barely eat any more!
Doc checked my thyroid and it was fine, execise what I can but with bad hips cannot go out to walk any more either!
To think I used to run a mile every day before climbing in the truck to go!
