Wide or close ratio-how to tell?

A close ratio Muncie has a 2.20:1 first gear ratio, the wide ratio one has a 2.52:1 first gear ratio. Put the trans in 1st gear and rotate the input shaft until the output shaft makes 1 turn. If it takes about 2.5 turns, it's a wide ratio tranny.Anyone have a way to determine whether a Muncie is a wide or close ratio trans while it's in the car? I'm thinking checking engine revolutions to drive shaft?

There are RPM calculators out on the web that not only calculate for final drive ratio, but allow you to do the same with lower tranny gears.
