I have stated before that I have a friend who is running a set of the ProComp heads on his 468 in a tubbed pro street '70 Nova. The car has low compression and a fairly large solid roller cam. I know those cars are light but, it runs very strong. Plus, the guy absolutely thrashes the motor everytime he has it out. This is the only set that I have first-hand info on though.

Cat internals, ProComp heads, etc., etc.....Feeling lucky?
I love this line, in his last paragraph.

DON'T SETTLE FOR SOMEONE TRYING TO SELL YOU SOME CHEEP HYPEREUTECTIC CAST PISTONS OR NO NAME INTERNAL COMPONENTS, INSIST ON ONLY THE FINIST QUALITY FOR YOUR STREET OR RACE CAR.:D

I looked at the completed items list, and one of these from this seller went for $1200. I wouldn't buy one, I was just wondering what was up. I have told Wolfplace that when I win a lottery, he is the first person I am going to tell so he can get going on my motor. I guess I should start buying tickets...

Why not, hell I'd jump all over one for $1200 and I don't have BBC's. I could care less about some people bad talking ProComp because it's the "in" thing to do around here. The damthings going to run, and it will probably do pretty darn good too. Better than 1200 bucks worth I bet. For 1200 or even 2500, you're getting enough of a deal you could take it apart and make sure it was put together right and clean.

But that thing will go for way more than 1200.

I didn't like him saying they set the bearing clearances at .002 rods and mains. That is tripe written for an audience that has never layed a mic on a crank or in a main bore or a bearing shell.

I'm kinda with Tom on the guy seeming to believe he had the finest stuff available. That or it was unsuperb salesmanship. His line about cast steel cranks and demanding the best was non-sequitur fer sure.

But like I said, it'll run even through the procomp disparaging.

Tim. The OP's question was why is it so cheap. No one is bashing the ProComp heads, They are just answering the question. The engine is cheap because the internals and Heads are of a cheaper quality and they lack the performance potential of the more expensive parts.... If you want a DD street engine with so-so power, This engine is fine. If you want one that will perform and live under more than grandma's foot, Spend more on better quality parts...

Scott, OP's question was also "What would be wrong with it for a 1000 mile a year car, that's only hammered on a Freeway on-ramp up to 65mph occasionally? "

Then he said he wouldn't buy it after folks started detracting from its value because it isn't all forged Callies and AFR. So I said I could care less about people bad talking(I didn't say bashing) ProComp, for 1200 bucks it'll run baby:):beers:

Tim. I wasn't jumping on you either. I think his "I wouldn't buy one was only stating that he never planed to buy this engine, only wondering about the lower price.. I do agree though that sometimes people diss the cheaper stuff only because it's not to the quality or performance potential as the "better" parts.
My response usually is, "You get what you pay for, Save your money and get the better stuff"..

I have actually bought from this seller in the past. I purchased a complete set of BBC main caps from him. Got them for a fair price and they were shipped promptly.
Someone said they had seen in completed auctions where he sold one of these engines for $1200? Even with the 'bargain' parts used, I don't see how he could made any profit at that price. The ProComp heads sell for $800-$900 retail so, I'm figuring he paid $600-$700 for them at best. That would have left $600 for the rest of the parts, machining, assembly, etc. Even with owning his own equipment, it seems like he would have lost money on that one.
