I am working on the Camaro door and someone in a previous life decides to rip a piece of the door inner skin up. I assume the meathead did it to get the lock assembly out but you can easily remove it without doing that. I could have let it go considering its under the door panel but considering how close it is to the lock assembly I thought it best to weld it up for extra support. You know doing the interior, rebuilding the engine not to mention painting the car I have plenty of time on my hands to fix some other jerks butcher job. Do I sound pissied off to you.

Come on Bill, did you really think it'd be easy? People "hack" because it's easy, doing things the right way is too hard for idiots.

I added a couple pics since you commented Kevin. I could almost see someone taking a shortcut but to just rip the metal. Damn at least use a whizzer That's fairly thick steel and must have taken some power to just rip it like that. Well it's stronger now, not the prettiest work but good enough for that area. Man people are stupid....

Put it in context......I've done far worse than that to my old honda accord. These cars used to be in the same catagory kinda.
The hood flew open one morning, only because I was in a fender bender and we just tore a few body panels off and used the concrete floor as one big body dolly, then reassembled. Hood flew open at 60 mph, folding over to blow out the sunroof which exploded everywhere, filling my coffee mug half up with glass. Pulled over, unstrapped my belt and tied the hood down, proceeded to work.
Next day, pulled the hood, myself and my brother took turns stomping on the backside of the hood on the same concrete floor and reinstalled the hood.....added hood pins form a '70 chevelle.
Cut a piece of tin to patch the sunroof void, tek screwed it on, and sealed with vulkem caulk. Good to go.
I'm sure each of us can relate.

Sure I can see doing that. Hell it was only a Honda:) But this is a number matching 71 Camaro SS and not your run in the mill beater. I am amazed this car is so clean besides they started to jam everything red. I am just trying to figure out why would someone do that when the rest was kept so clean..

I'm assuming you did that when you were much younger? I don't think I've ever gone to that extreme, but I have used plumbing pipe (2" copper) to fix an exhaust pipe when I was doing construction.

Nope, this was maybe 3 years back. I've had a running competition with a buddy on how long we could make our beaters last.....without any major investment. Got 350k out of that accord, but he still won.

Sorry for the derailment Bill, and yes, I'd never treat a living chevy that way.

.....had a buddy in high school that purposely ran a '69 Cutlass straight 6 out of oil to see how far it went. Thing lasted for months, but pretty short trips.

I've done hack repairs in my poorer days but never just ripped metal because I didn't want to remove 3 bolts and one runner

That's why I asked Jerry if he was much younger.... when we were younger and had no money, we did what we had to to keep the car moving down the road.... not safely, just moving.

Ive hacked many things on my chevelle since it was a POS to begin with and I bought it when I was 15 and didnt even know how to drive yet. Unfortunately I still own the car 17 years later and Ive spent the last few years fixing things that I screwed up on in the past lol.

What goes around comes around. We all pay for our sins I guess but hell I am not even religious. First there was my current Chevelle called Murphy and now this car. I must have done some bad things in my last life.

I can. And the worst part of the day was having my coffee ruined.

I don't really like the method used in the original example, but most of the guys that design those door shells are freaking idiots. I've lost so much blood over the years from some of those damn access holes, that I would be more than proud to re-engineer the things and give the middle finger to the designer. A five year old could do a better job than most of the ones I've seen. While I'm at it, the people who designed GM dashes might have been among the most idiotic people on the planet. When a Chrysler design is one hundred times better than your design, you might want to re-evalute your life.
