Who sells decent hyd lifters for the new Hyd. Flat Tappet cam thats going in my stock 454.

I have a 1978 454 truck engine, with 781 heads in my 69 el Camino. Its stock with low mileage, about 55,000-60,000 miles.
I started getting some popping noise under full throttle and when checking things out, I noticed exhaust rocker #6 not moving as much as the others. So the cam must be worn.

I want to use stock parts, it runs strong enough for me.. I'm looking at the Summit 1301 and Melling 22216 cams.

Where can I get good lifters?

Thank you..

Keep in mind that any cam you put in it with more lift than stock will almost certainly need a valve spring change. The Melling CCS25 is the stock replacement. They also have a "torque" cam MTC6 which is a little bigger but not as much as the 22216.

Cant help you on recommending lifters but I would probably go with the same brand as the cam.

I will be watching this thread as I am curious also. I've read a little on comp cams lifters with a diamond like hard coating on them but not sold on the idea since they're cheaper than their magnum line of lifters. And in their pictures it looks like the magnum series has the hardened foot on them. Could be wrong though.

I'm pretty sure that the Summit cams comes with lifters, at least the 2 Summit cams I bought over the years came with lifters.
Also how about the Elgin cams they come with lifters and I think they are close in grind to the Summit grinds too.
As for only the lifters themselves there's the edge orifice lifters or whatever they're called, that help to make sure there's no camshaft lobe failures.I think that is what you might call them.

Thanks 68 but this is a flat tappet I think your referring to rollers. No?
I have the original hyd flat tappet lifters I took out of a 1986 RV 454 that had 24K miles on it in a coffee can covered in 10w30 motor oil, you can have them if you pay shipping from St Pete Fl 33713, they've been in that can a few years, around 2012 I put a Summit/Crane cam & lifter kit in the engine but tossed the RV cam, guess I should've hung on to it, I'll pull a cpl lifters out of the can today and post pics, myself I'd buy new lifters from a known professional like CamKing or Vortecpro,,,,then Isky, my friend and co-worker has a 302 with an Elgin Pro Line SFT DZ cam & lifters that sounds great but is still on an engine stand so I really can't say anything about longevity

Here’s 2 from the coffee can, I did need to wire wheel the sides a little but the foot rocks on my garage window on each lifter

Here,s my two cents on this one when you buy a HFT CAM buy the cam and lifter kit from whoever you buy the cam from . I use ISKY CROWER ENGLE Sealed power and ELGIN PRO STOCK . I believe that they are buying all their lifters from Pro TOP LINE as they bought out the Johnson HY Lift factory out and all the machinery but i could be wrong also . You can also buy new lifters from PRO TOPLINE direct call the factory . I also believe that Sealed Power Federal MOGUL MELLING Michigan Etc are also selling the PRO TOPLINE Johnson HY lift lifter as their own . They have to give you a decent product if they sold junk that goes south fast the warranty claims would put them out of BUSSINESS . I think you would be fine with any of these lifters with the proper oil and BREAK IN procedure . There are a few interesting articles on YOUTUBE on cam and lifter failures and the like by POWELL MACHINE . This guy is very sharp and a GOOD OLE BOY he may not be an engineer but he knows a lot and has all the EQUIPMENT . I learned a few things watching his videos . One things for sure this guy is very sharp aint no flies on his nose and if there is one he is paying a fotune in rent to be there. Alex

I think $210 bucks for a set of Flat TAPPET lifters is insane GM does not make them anymore i think if you bur the Sealed Power ones at half that price you will be just fine . Alex

Did you notice down a little lower in the listing the Sealed Power & Melling didn't show a hardened cap or Foot? that line going around the lifter near the Cap or Foot must be where the hardened part is? I also read they're MFG in the USA, and when I read a question posted about the GM Perf lifters asking Syn or Min oil they said designed for Mineral oil
