Who makes the correct AC PF25 red white and blue oil filters? I know Ground Up has them and not to bash them but the ones they sell are crap! They are repainted blue ones that are paper thin metal housings. When I was spinning on the filter and gave it the extra 1/4 turn, I dented the housing and ended up getting a pin hole leak in it rendering it useless. (not to mention making a mess out of my garage floor) Does Year One or anyone else sell a better quality one? I remember about 3-5 years ago, Ground Up was selling a nice quality oil filter with a glossy white type of filter with the correct markings. Now it seems like the filter was originally blue and was painted a egg shell white (yellowish white) color with the correct markings on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we ususally buy them a couple at a time.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

I removed the Ground up filter off my car prior to the engine rebuild and it folded right up when removing it. They are paper thin. I had about 3 miles on it too. :(

I called ground up for another one and they told me they were discontinued.

My guess is there's only (1) manufacturer.

I hope I'm wrong and somebody chimes in because being forced to run a modern AC Delco's going to eat at me every time I open the hood.

Paragoncorvette.com had them but for $44.95 each.:clonk: No way Im spending that kind of money on something that gets replaced once a year. Ground Up used to sell them for $25 each which was more reasonable. Looks like I will be getting a NAPA one and painting it white or cutting off the cover off of my last one that I got from Ground Up that is still brand new and just slide that over the filter at car shows.

That's given me an idea.

I e-mailed RichR who offers reproduction labels for our cars.

We need to research the original factory filter (Not the White AC period correct replacement reproduction)

And have a correct gloss label made to adhere to a freshly painted filter.

There is a GM dispute over these reproduction filters and nobody has them in stock. I tried everywhere, even Paragon.

Anybody have any detailed photos of a GM factory Oil Filter 69-70 (not the AC replacements?)

Thats a great idea. RichR's decals are dead on and an excellent item. What is the dispute that GM is having???

NOS ones are not always what was used at the factory. Sometimes the over the counter parts differed slightly from the factory installed ones.

Actually, when these filters became available ???? years ago.I was led to believe they WERE AC filters that were manufactured in Canada. They were pretty easy to come by in the Buffalo area.

Maybe I should say...when "I became aware of them"

John,

Thks for thinking of me, got your e-mail as well - have responded. It's a great idea and I am sure the label itself would be fairly simple to reproduce, the issue at hand as Bill points out is the AC logo is a registered trademark of GM. I would need the rights to use that logo on the label. On another note though if I did it for personal use and not for sale I don't think it would be a problem. If any one has good details on the filter markings and can send them to me I can always try and make a few of them and share the information on how to print them for yourself, however you would not be able to put them up for sale. It can't be that difficult as long as there is no unusual graphics involved.

Thks

Rich

P.S. Brian - read the article in the new Chevelle World - thks for mentioning me - the car looks great too

Rich,

Props given where props are due. Thanks for the comment on the el camino. The die cast model the Franklin Mint is making seems to be coming out nicely if they make some refinements such as they had incorrect year rims and other minor details but aside from that, the detail on the elky is SUPER detailed down to the ribs on the bed floor, vigilite pods on the fenders, spark plug wires, brake lines, etc. I can't wait to get our order for them using our elky. The clay 1 to 1 version is really nice. The die cast 1 to 1 version should be available for viewing sometime this month. Basically, the only thing that the el camino has yet to be in is a movie. We have won the concours d'Elegance, was on TV at the concours d'Elegance, taken our AACA Junior and Senior National, a second place AACA Grand National, and have a die cast model being made by not only Welly Die Cast toys, but the Franklin Mint as well. All with the help of everyone here, particularly a special thanks to Rich R., Bill, Albert, and Kenny, and everyone else who has helped with replies to postings I have done on here. (basically, our extended family):beers:

That is just out right sick that someone would spend that much money for an oil filter that would basically need to be changed once a year. Its like paying big money for an air cleaner that will yellow from the gas vapors coming in contact with it.:noway:

This certainly will not answer the original question, but it may be of some interest.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, "GM of Canada" still produces its oil filters in White. The filter on the left was the style that was still available up until about three years ago. That is the last one of that style on my shelf. The one on the right is unfortunately their new style since then. They are available at any GM dealer and all the major Parts Stores. I bought two today at a parts store for about $4.30 CDN each. The cheapest place to get them around here is WalMart.

Years ago on occasion we used to take a case of them (previous style) down to our car buddies in Syracuse for use on their cars. One guy even went so far as to paint White over the French wording.

Certainly not exactly like original, but in my opinion the White sure looks a lot better on my car than a Blue one or an Orange one
