My guess - the heat radiating efficiency goes down.

It makes since. When my roof is covered with snow, my air conditioner doesn't run at all.

Then you paint it the blackest of black and in the spring paint it white again.

I worked for 25 years making white paper, white isn't as white as you think sometimes.

Kinda like how Kindig always says "Black isn't black".... which with GMcan be quite true. It's just a very very very dark brown.

I got some Brilliant White industrial enamel and painted my Galaxie 500 while my kids were at school.

I rolled it out of the garage and into the driveway and the school bus dropped off my oldest son and his friend.
They shaded their eyes and started squinting when walking towards the house with the car in the drive way.

My son asked me: Can you turn that down it is so bright I can't look towards it.

That is when I discovered white cars are not white.

My chicken coop has a plastic white roof over it and no heat comes through when it is in full sun.
The metal roof on the shed right next to it puts off heat like an oven.

I can see a use for a reflective paint but as stated it needs to stay clean.
And not break the bank.
I know someone makes a cool deck system for concrete .. makes concrete not hot when in direct summer sun.
Buddy has the concrete coating around his pool.

I saw a Monte Carlo at a show about 15 years ago; special paint; it was white with warm water, then turned dark, almost black with cold water....Haven't seen it since..

Is the mold you refer to the black streaks that run down everyones roofs ?? And looks like hell? When I clean my gutters, I notice some area on the edge of shingle that have bits of what looks like moss. And this isnt in any dark corners, but in direct sunlight.
