There are some TA's that were defective and you will never get them white.
I have white letter T/A’s on 3 cars. The most recent set, bought 3 years ago for my 57 210-post will not stay black/white. A week or two after cleaning they are brown again. I’ve tried everything mentioned here. The older tires are fine. They don’t brown and are easy to keep clean. My tire guy called it “blooming” and said it is now common with recent T/A’s due to chemicals in the rubber compound. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another set.

The new BFG's are not like the older ones, and I've been cleaning RWL whitewalls since 1972, and there is nothing on the market I havent tried many times, not to mention a few tricks of my own from having had detail shops in the car business. I've bought my LAST set of of BRG's...they trash out tthe whole car. And no they cant be cleaned with anything. I've got a like new set of 14's on '70 SS replica wheels...that I had to pull off. I'll sell them with the car someday I guess...

This topic has come up before. Looks like we're finally getting some good answers to the raised brown letters. I have a set on my chevelle that I continuously clean.... and I have resolved to end the madness by taking my car to an empty parking lot or country road, see how long I can hold my foot to the floor and make these tires slicks.
Going with cooper cobras next.

$114.60 for Belche Wite, great googly moogly! No conversion rate can help that.

I'm the blackwall type these days but in all my life I never seen anything wear out as fast as Radial T/As. Last set of RWL tires I got (current, letters in) were Tiger Paws. Because 15"s and not BFG. They have the same trouble but in addition were never round for a day. Ain't none of em worth a flip now, in 15". For a guy wanting to throw his car's weight around a little. Better'n stock 14s though.

Anyway, as far as an optimal scrubber for this I found white scotch brite scuff pads to be just right. They are for clearcoat blend prep and while any scuff pad will brighten non-defective RWLs, the white grit can do so without dulling the sidewall around them. A guy could make a new old wive's tale about that being why they are white. Straight 409 served me as well as Bleche Wite ever did, for the initial dissolving of road dirt.

But I digress, any RWLs of mine now are permanently brown with the blue stuff still on, not seen.

Strange how we have some members that have successful results on cleaning the brown rwl's. ....and on this and many other forums full of professionals, and some that have just the opposite results. I'm not suggesting that anyone is falsifying their results either. I just dont get it...and I know some of the brown rwl's cannot be successfully cleaned...period. What do you suppose could be the difference in the tires??? ...lotsa warehouse time, before they are sold as new maybe? Seems older tires were cleanable, and newer tires not.
