While cleaning my engine block, i found a little bit of light rust in one of the cylinders. this is a block fresh from the machine shop.

is this a problem?

also, one of the lifter bores has one side that kinda looks like a "leopard"... has some spots that look like they go deeper than the machining.

its that a problem?

thanks guys

sometimes you can just wipe it off with rags or paper towels soaked with clean motor oil. If you use steel wool you should consider re-cleaning the block afterwards. the tiny shreds of steel wool get everywhere and sort of stick in the rough casting surfaces.

ill try to get pictures...

do you know what would cause the lifter bore to be like that? Is it possible that the casting is just slightly larger than it needs to be in some spots so that the machining didnt get it or can rust form in that sort of pattern on its own?

thanks guys
