There are several factors that need to be consided/known before selecting the correct TC for any car with a ATrans .
1. what is the car used for e.g. cruising or drag strip only or combination of both e.g.
If a too Hi of a stall TC is installed the concern is that it will be too loose for
street driving, which is the main purpose of the car, not just racing every weekend

2. details on the cars weight/engine/rear end gears e.g.
CAR = 67 Chevelle SS that weighs 3600 lbs + / TH 400 trans / 3.55 rear gears
Engine = 468 BBC alum heads & intake Dyno info
RPM CBT Lb-Ft CBHP
4600 521.9 457.1
5200 502.1 497.1
5800 475.9 525.6
6000 452.5 516.9
3. details how the car currently runs e.g.
The car runs around 1000-2000 rpm in town/city and on the hwy at 2300-2800 rpm
with the old stockish 350HD Torque Converter and the engine or trans
does not have any problems running too hot

4. the stall for the TC you buy should be lower than your cruising rpm
so that the TC is not slipping/to loose thus causing the Trans to over heat/run to hot

Provide us with more info please !

#1 The cars main purpose is sunday driver and car shows.
#2 I'm not sure how much a 1965 chevelle weighs I'll have to check my title but it has a turbo 350 trans and I don't know what gears it has but it runs about 2800rpm's at 60mph.
#3The car runs about 1000 to 2200 around town. A hot day when the air tempurtures are over 80 degs and stuck in traffic the motor starts to heat up but if I put it in nutral the temps will hold steady. The car wants to surge forward and has a rough idle only while holding the brakes. Already I know my idle is to low to spin the mecanical fan at proper speed but it wont surge as much like that. It just fills like there is absolutly no slip even at 4 to 500rpms other than the problems when at a red light or stuck in traffic I have the smoothest running 350 around including running about 160 degs when in motion

Wick, check this online site out, http://www.jegs.com/p/TCI/TCI-Saturday-Night-Special-Torque-Converters/747582/10002/-1
it shows you what stall the TC should be based on the details that apply to your car,
I would suggest you look at aTC with a stall of 1,600 to 1,800 rpm in the Sat Night Special group, IMHO and also you have to find out if you have a Locking or Non Locking Trans so that you buy the correct TC for the trans you have . Good Luck !

I would call a few torque converter companies and talk to them. I did that when looking for a new TC and ended up buying one from Coan. They were great to work with and the converter they recommended for me worked out perfectly for my combo.
