hey guys -

my 70 elcamino has a hole in the radiator. i noticed it leaking as i was putting it away for the winter, last october. i was too lazy to get to it over the cold months, so now i want to replace it and get her back on the road.

i have catalogs from original parts group, year one and the paddock. each sells a version of the 4 row, 2 5/8" for AC with automatic that i need..... but each one of them seems to have a slightly different description.

do you guys have any experience with purchasing a radiator from these three suppliers? any comments (good or bad) towards what you purchased? i am most concerned with the trans lines. i hope the replacement has the trans cooler lines in the same position.... i don't want to run new lines.

what do you think?

thanks - oaw

thanks for the info guys...

i checked out the alumitech radiators. they look nice.
i don't like the silver color though. i would rather have it be black like the original.

any other thoughts?

I vote for Alumitech also. Painted my cores black, a little overspray only on the fins to give it a black effect. Cooling is not affected unless you clog up the fins. TOTALLY stock looking, but significantly better.

Oscar, most all radiators that are black are painted black from the factory.

If you use the correct radiator paint thats specifically designed to not be too thick as to reduce cooling efficiency you should be fine buying a alumitech rad and then painting it with a couple thin coats of black Eastwood radiator paint.

I also know that the popular Chevy Step Van radiator is a good chioce also. And if your car is not modified to the point where an aluminum radiator is needed, its a nice economical choice if you dont need a high performance radiator.

Oscar,

This is a perfect time to become a Chevelle Team member.

Alumitec is a company that gives 10% off to members. So for your $19.95 membership fee you'll save about $60 on your new Radiator!

I bought one for my 70. Even the tranny lines connected perfectly.

Just measure the hose diameter sizes that your current radiator has and they'll make sure the new one is the same.

When you order give them your Team Chevelle username, so they can look you up and verify you as a paid member (the checkered flag)!

Yes it is true ... sorry guys due to the increase cost of aluminum cores over the past year .. the discount had to go by the wayside ... good news is... im holding prices and not passing on the increase customers .....as a family owned business don’t get the great prices on supplies and cores that major companies that buy thousands of cores do .

Big Al the moderator of the site pulled all post that reflected any discounts in the past so there would be no confusion .

again thanks for your support from team members

update......

the new radiator slid in perfectly. no issues what-so-ever. the new trans cooler lines matched right up and the new rubber cushions lined up on mark.

i used the eastwood radiator paint you guys recommended and it looks sweet. i made sure not to paint the part where the hoses connect with the clamps.

tonight i fill her up and check for leaks.

thanks all for all your help and ideas - oaw
