After my step father died last year I became the owner of soem car parts he had stored in his shed. This week I finally drug home the tranny I found out there thinking it was a Muncie:hurray:. Looks like it is a Saginaw :sad:

Where Can I find any informaiton about Saginaw trannies? I have the numbers off of it but would like to know more about it. I had plans on putting it in the Chevelle this winter until I learned it was not a Muncie.

Thanks,

Bob

I found another number stamped into a pad on the lower right side near the tail houing. It had more numbers than what you mentioned but it is the only one I can find and it is the only one stamped in. It is 24N146952.

Thanks,

Ok I think I 've got it. The number on the pad like inthe picture is R4D01. Hope that helps. Also would you suggest using it for a 72 Chevelle or look for a Muncie?

Thanks,

R=saginaw

4= is the model year 74?

d= april

01= 1st day of the month

As far as using it for your velle, I assume you have an auto now. It's free, it's not that valuable, and it's a 4 speed. You can always upgrade later, the hard part will be done. I'd run it till it grenades and save up for a better tranny untill then.
