I am new to this forum and I have looked at the wheel/tire fitment guide but did not find anything for my application. I have a 1966 chevelle convertible with a 12 bolt rear and drum brakes and I would like to run a 15x10 rim in the back and a 15x7 in the front. Is this possible? What would be the correct backspacing and what size tires could I run? I don't want to have to modify alot. I would roll wheel well lip if I had to. Thanks for your time.

I did check it out and I didn't find anything that is similar to my car. There were alot of 67's on there but no 66 convertibles with a combo like I want to run.
I used to run 15X7 and 15X8... The 15X8 will fit pretty much the widest tire you can fit, the 295/50-15 (for BFGoodrich, its within the manufacturers acceptible width range)...

15X10 rims can have a conflict with the lower shock mount on the rear axle. You could modify the rear axle/shock mount...

Is your rearend a '66 12-bolt (or a 65/67)? Or a later rearend?

I ran 265/50-15 in front and 295/50-15 in back, with no lip modifications and extremely lowered at one time...

The rears, 4.75 BS is pretty good (with the 15X8), so figure 5.75 with the 15X10... I forget on the fronts (its in the database Clint mentioned), but I think around 4 inches of BS on the 15X7... When EXTREMELY lowered, the front tire rubbed the inner fender bolt at/near full steering lock...

Any reason you want 15X10, other than just personal choice?

It doesn't matter whether it's a 66 or a 67. It doesn't matter whether it's a Cragar or a Billet Specialties wheel. What is important is that you choose the right backspacing for the wheel width you want to run and don't get carried away with tire diameter. The hardest thing to do is choose what brand & style of wheel you want to run.

I am going to run the American Racing Classic Torq Thrust II (cl205) and I am looking at a 275/60R15 tire for the back. I believe my 12 bolt is later than 1966. I am going to run stock height I don't plan on ever lowering the car. It will have air shocks on the back so I can adust the height some. The reason I was leaning toward the 10" wide wheel was to get a wider look in the back with a deeper lip but I will probably just go with the 15x8 so I don't have any problems.

on a 10" wide wheel you will need 5.5" backspace, 5.25" bacespace on a 9.5"wide wheel and so on. Others may work, but these numbers will put the wheel exactly centered in the wheel well. Thats my experience anyway.

66 vert,
I have 15X8's with 275/60/15 in the back of my 66 with 1" lowering springs. I used a 5" backspace because I have a 70 chevelle rear end. 68-72 chevelle rears are an inch wider than 64-67. Check your rear first then you can get the correct sizes.

How do those 275's compare in size to a hoosier 26x9x15 slick?
A tried a 8"weld draglite, 4 1/2 backspace with that hoosier on my 65 last night. No way it would fit.

Jerry,
Here are the specs. P275/60R15 BFG T/A Radial,Overall Diameter 28.0",Cross Section 11.0" Raised White Letter, S-Speed Rated performance with all-season traction. B.F.Goodrich recommends wheel widths from 7 1/2" to 9 1/2" wide for this tire size.
Chances are you would need to do some quarter lip cutting to squeeze them in. I'm no expert on 65's but I beleive in the wheel and tire data base, 255 is the widest tire that fits without modifications.....Anyone with a 65 want to chime in?
