Alright guys, i need some help here. I am wanting to order my rear end for my 70 soon. I am going to be getting a currie 9 inch. I want to run 20 inch rear wheels that will have a nice deep lip on them. I am thinking about narrowing the rear, but not sure how much I can get away with. I will be running air ride in the rear, and rolling the fenders is no problem. I want to run at least a 10 inch rear wheel, and if its possible a 11 or 12 inch. Im not real worried about the tires right now, just need to know what rear to order that will alow me to run a wide wheel that has a deep look to it. Thanks in advance.

Room inside the fenderwells is the limiting factor, not rearend width. An 11" rim is still about as wide as you can fit w/o major mods. However, narrowing the rear some will allow you to run less backspacing = more dish.

Im not trying to narrow the rear end to fit a wider rim. I want to narrow it so that i can get a deeper looking wheel. Even if its a 10 inch wide rim, i can get 4-4.5 backspace with the one inch narrower rear and have a bigger lip that a stock width with a 5.5 inch backspace

Didn't my post above say the same thing?
It's your money but I wouldn't risk 10" wheels with 4" backspace if you're only going to narrow the rear 1" per side. Rule of thumb is 5.5" backspace on a 10" rim with a standard width rear so you would need to narrow it 1.5" per side. That would center the wheel in the well and give you the dish you're looking for. A custom rear end is kind of expensive just to gain more lip, though.
Gets kinda confusing sometimes, doesn't it? :D

I am putting a currie 9 inch in the car anyway so it will not be more expensive to narrow it a little. I will get the right measuerments to make it work, i was just wondering if i narrow it one inch and use one less inch of backspace if everything will be ok.

I have been thinking about the same thing as you. I want a deeper looking wheel by using a narrower rear. I was planning on a 2" narrower rear and a 10" wheel with a 4.5" backspace. Or a 4" narrower rear with 3.5" back space wheel.

The negative thing, I would always need a custom backspace on any wheel. A stock wheel would never fit if you ever wanted them.
