i don't know why they do that.
i know the USPS does stuff like that now, too. up here, if i want to send something to a local address, it gets shipped to St Cloud- well over 100 miles away- and then sent back the next day. i think that might have something to do with why they need to raise postage rates all the time.
good thing i haven't sent anything via the mail in years..

WE shipped some gear from Memphis to Hawaii once. The first crate went two day, which FEdEx didn't tell us was actually three day when shipping to Hawaii, so the next crate went next day, which is still next day when going to Hawaii :clonk: We recharacterized the first crate from 2-day (really 3-day) to overnight (really overnight :clonk: ) but were told we were too late to get them both there overnight. Well, the first crate (going 2-day which was really 3-day) got put on the same plane as the overnight crate anyway, so they both made it there at the same time. We knew this from the tracking number. But when we went to pick them up they told us we could only have the overnight crate and would have to wait two more days to pick up the 2-day (which was really 3-day when shipping to Hawaii) because it was a 2-day (which was really a 3-day) package :clonk: Boy I had to call all the way back to FedEx corporate to pry that first crate out of them.

I ordered headers for my velle from Jegs. They are in Ohio. I check my fedex tracking they went from Ohio to Illinois. I am in Indiana. Why do they do this??? They cross the State where it goes to take it right back the next day?
So they can keep shipping charges up. DUH people. ;)

All the shippers do this. It depends on which sorting hub is goes thru. Yours was pretty much a regional delivery, and the driver picking up in Ohio has a whole truck full of freight, he has no idea where those pkgs are going. Everything was sorted in Ill. then sent out to its destination. It has nothing to do with making more money on shipping:clonk:

Johnny O is correct, it's just like when a person flies the airlines. One day I was trying to get from Lincoln Nebraska to Oklahoma City to pick up and airplane at Tinker AFB, but since the Air Force would not let us rent a car one way and drive the 7 hours all 3 of us had to fly. So they made us drive to Omaha, wait 2 hours, fly to Minneapolis, wait 3 hours then fly to OKC. and then catch a taxi to Tinker. Total travel time from when I left my house to when I checked in my billeting roo mat Tinker was 11.5 hours. Cost to the taxpayers was over 2,000 dollars becasue we got our tickets the same day. Cost for us to rent a car, would have been about 200 bucks for the one way, and total travel time would have been around 8 hours. Doesn't always make sense based on 1 particular person or package, but it's the only way to manage mass amounts of people or boxes.

You spend more time idling at left turns than right turns. Ans it isn't "dot let them" it's "routes are planned so they don't have to...

I think I better check Snopes on that one.

Just as I suspected.

And I have ordered things from NJ that go to the airport by my house, to St Louis (FedEx) and then come back to the airport, and come to the house. They are moving and sorting a lot of packages, they have to centralize it to cut costs.

What I can't stand is when Summit or Jegs,or whomever for that matter, will send something Fed Ex,and it sits 5 miles from the house for days.UPS usually beats them by 3-5 days.

Ya, and they only allow their delivery drivers to make right turns because left turns "waste fuel" Go figure.

Also a safety issue
When I lived in Phoenix, many of the streets became no left turns at different hours of the day.
And no. 7st had a center turn lane that was southbound traffic in the morning----then in the afternoon northbound traffic.

Left turns from 10am to 3pm only

Kinda like the Golden Gate---except for the turns.

Personally----will not turn left from a shopping center---PERIOD
Will not turn left into a shopping center UNLESS a signal and turn lane is controlling traffic.

And in even moderate traffic---I prefer 3 rt turns to a left at an uncontrolled intersection.
