Getting ready to paint some steel wheels for a 66 SS. The information I have says Body color for the outside of both 66 & 67 cars with dog dish; but doesn't specifiy the color for the inside of the rim. Also it says on 67 cars with full wheel covers the color is Gloss Black; but doesn't mention color for 66 cars.

So for 66 SS cars with full wheel covers, what's the correct outside & inside color? And for 66 SS cars with dog dish, what's the correct inside color?

Body color for dogs, black for full covers. Backs are black with body color spray through slots. I could be wrong on the body color being black on the backs.

With body color on the outside and black on the inside, that would be two operations; but then maybe the chevy plant received them all black from KH (or would they have received them bare or primed?) and then painted body color for the dog dish caps.

My 67 spare tire wheel which has the original paint is painted the body color front and back. Not sure about 66. The paint may also vary by assembly plant. Mine is a Kansas City car.

Jim you are probably right. They all got primered at once then the entire wheel painted body color for the dogs and black for the full wheel covers.
