Whats involved in replacing the rear main seal?

I have a small oil leak that seems to be coming from behind the oil pan, almost from the fly wheel cover. It's not ATF, its dirty oil, so what all is involved in replacing it? Everything is in the car, so would the transmission have to be removed? if so, i might as well get a better torque converter.

I have a similar problem with oil leaking in the same area...would the same apply to a 327?

Someone told me I may need to replace seals, or possible just tighten the oil pan.
