Whats involved in replacing the rear main seal?

I have a small oil leak that seems to be coming from behind the oil pan, almost from the fly wheel cover. It's not ATF, its dirty oil, so what all is involved in replacing it? Everything is in the car, so would the transmission have to be removed? if so, i might as well get a better torque converter.

Well, i looked in the back of the intake, and it looks like the oil sending unit may be the culprit. It was wet oil all over the back of the block, running down the right side of the tranny. I tightened it up, cleaned everything up, and low and behold, i found my blocks casting numbers! lol

We'll see what happens!
