What is everyone's favorite ring? My application is: 400SBC, SRP forged flattop pistons, 10.1 compression, 5.7 inch rod.

Total Seal Gapless? TS1, TSS
Sealed Power? moly?
high tension, low tension?

What should I be looking for if I am shopping for a high end ring that will last 100,000 miles of truck style driving.

Moly-faced, standard tension, file fit. Sealed Power would be my choice.

With KB Hypereutectic pistons, the top ring gap needs to be wide enough that "ordinary" rings become "file fit" rings--and so you could save a few bucks that way if KB has a flattop 400 piston for a 5.7 inch rod.

Yeah, i used the Speed Pro/Sealed Power file fit, standard tension, moly rings and was very happy with them. Even bought the little ring filing tool to get them going :)

Matt,
I use Hastings regular Moly rings about 90% of the time. I have never had a problem with them. The only time I use anything else if the engine is going to see severe duty or if I need a file fit ring.
To be perfectly honest with you, I think the finish on the cylinder walls is probably more importent to performance and longevity than the brand of rings you use. I think any ring from one of the quality manufacturers will work fine. Just stay away from the "noname" white box stuff.

Speed Pro Moly rings for non-Nitrous applications. If your gonna run spray use the Speed Pro Hell Fire rings.

Total seal gapless rings do not offer enough benefit to justify the price.

Awesome info. I figured as much. Stay away from the noname generic stuff. That rule applies to a bunch of things.

As far as wedding rings go, my original one lasted exactly 3 days. Got married after I got back from falluja, went surfing and lost the ring in the Pacific.. I was smart and told my wife right away. I was in the dog house for a bit. Now I sport a $10 wal-mart special and its still pulling lots of vacuum even after another tour in the sandbox.
