Have you ever driven the quarter mile with this car or any other car? I'm assuming street tires, if so, those will be your largest limiting factor. Technique is king, get a few runs under your belt before you get concerned about getting the best time you can. First and foremost, a smooth launch with a minimum of wheels spin is your goal. If you've never run the quarter before, don't be surprised and disappointed if your first few runs are much slower than you expect. If you have street tires, drive around the water box and don't have the rear tires inflated to their max. If you have a way to refill the tires for the trip home, drop them to around 20 pounds to increase the amount of tread on the ground.

i've got about 20 passes at the strip (and about 200 street races ;) )
but not with this car.and i always avoid the burnout box with street tires.

You should get at least that, maybe a little faster. With a 750DP, and ET streets you should be well in the 12's.

That's good advice. Since you haven't run this car before, and you only had 20 runs with a different car, you can be sure that your times will come way down. I didn't race for over ten years and my first time back at the track, an 1/8 mile, my time dropped by 7 tenths just with getting used to the car again and working on my launch technique. Of course that was with drag radials and a stick.

Also, don't stage before the other car pre-stages. You probably already know that, but I thought I'd throw it out there (pet peeve, I guess).

On burnouts, you will have to experiment with what works best. A super long burnout with lots of smoke isn't always best, even though it's fun and just has to be done sometimes.

Have fun!!! Glad to hear you're heading to the track.

With that 280 cam blowing a chunk your 9.5:1 compression out the back and the low stall convertor, with traction, gearing alone is going to plant it solidly in the 13's. A convertor swap and slicks will net 12's.

low 14's in the low- mid 90's, upper 13's if it has a good tune, but thats not the case for most folks on there first time out. tuning usually follows.

i would say even with slicks and convertor that's not enough motor for 12's,
stock heads , some what ok compression and just a 280 cam. thats not 12 second motor unless you stick it in something light.

if a 12 sec motor was that easy we all would be there. im just trying to keep it real.

bottom line is to have fun no matter what it runs and just keep improving and learn from what you do.
