I purchased "New", yes I'm that old, that exact car you mention...A '65 Malibu hardtop which came with,14" plain wheels with a full hubcap....Like this...I up graded to 235 tires...
Then you speak with authority! Thanks. OK, I've found sets of those hubcaps for sale. Any idea how to get the steel wheels that go with them? Sounds like it might be something pretty generic. Also, is it well-advised to move up from 14 to to 15 inches?
If you want to go 15" wheels it would open a few more tire choices, but not resto correct, but it's your car. The older I get the more i like full-wheel covers
What wheels would I need to fit those correct hubcaps? The car now has shiny "hot rod" wheels (below). I'd like to get rid of those and move to original hubcaps and steel wheels. Thanks.
14'' steel wheels can be found but are getting harder to do so. Not a lot of 14'' tire choices but if doing a full original restore 14'' wheels is your ticket. I think I have one 14''x 6'' steel wheel with the 4 nubs which are the newer style for disc brakes but will also work on the older drum brakes. If you don't mind piecing a set of 4 maybe one at a time this one may interest you? Shipping is possible, can be a bit pricey but then again searching out and finding, buying restoring, painting original parts is not cheap either, LOL. Been thru it 3 times with my restored 71 Chevy Pickup, 71 Chevelle and my 57 2 dr sedan. PM me if interested in the single 14'' steel wheel.
